What we ate in May, and how much it cost

Once more, for the record, this is a chart of everything we ate during the month of May 2008..

Fruit Quantity Cost
Apples 6kg $6
Avocados 110 $83.65
Bananas 8kg $7.60
Capsicum 5 $1.50
Cherimoya 2kg $5.70
Cucumbers 5 kgs $11.13
Durian 53 kgs (including shells) $160.50
Grapes 30 kgs $56.00
Kiwi 6 $3
Mandarins 4kg $7.70
Oranges 25kg $21.06
Persimon 10 $5.10
Pineapple 8 $16.50
Tomatoes 27 kgs $36.50

Totalling $436 Which means that we averaged just over $14 (for 2 of us) each day on food.. That's roughly just $7 each! (Australian dollars per day).

Now that's budgetting! Considering that most people here would need easily 5 or more times that amount each day depending on the state of their toxicity.. feeding addictions such as tobaco and alcohol as well as the take-away fast food cravings that regularly also get appeased.

Bare in mind that we generally eat an average of 5 or 6 different things each day, that I fasted on Fridays, and that we did 9 or 10 days on mono grape juices, it should give a very rough idea of what we might eat on a daily basis..

We don't follow the traditional 3 meals a day plan.. rather we sort of graze throughout the day.

We don't really have a pattern. Just eat when we feel to.. and as a rule of thumb we are generally ready for food at about the same time.

To see more of what we eat on a more or less daily basis, then head over to Kveta's blog, where she tends to give rough summarys of what we both eat daily..

Hugs,
Mango.

Fruitarian Interview - 18 - PomeGranate

This is the 18th in a series of interviews with fruitarians..

PomegranateHi Pomegranate,

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions!

Could you please start off by telling us a little about yourself, how old you are, where you are living/grew up?

I appreciate this opportunity to speak -- thank you Mango.

I am at present living in sandiego --. i feel i am a timeless universal being.

May I ask What kind of diet did you grow up with? Could you give us a rough idea of what you used to eat on an average day?

When the consciousness of who i am was latent -- i ate a south indian diet. There would be varieties of rice dishes and vegatables/fruits--occasionally non veg.

Compare that to now, what does a typical days food intake look like for you now?

Now i enjoy biophoton rich fruits -- avocados, oranges, loquats. apricots, jujube (whatever is in season) generously supplied by my tree family in our home orchard-

So when did things start to change for you? Did you progress slowly to vegetarianism, veganism, raw food and fruitarianism, or was it more of a sudden change for you?? What sparked those changes?

Its been a natural, gradual awakening -- my body is my guide -- it's important to listen to ones body's level of comfort and respond appropriately.

Has anyone else in your family made such changes??

Everyone has been at least for some length of time enjoyed/experienced fruitarianism. The difficulty lies in sustaining that despite the constraints of prevalent culture. I do trust that everyone will open their real eyes(realize) so that they can discern for themselves what is nourishing.

So you have complete faith in the 100% fruit diet right?

A fruit diet is the most ethical as long as one relies on eating.

Can you tell us a little about your health before and after? What about your weight, any major changes?

I enjoy excellent health-always have - i danced in joy with my new baby some 15 minutes after giving birth. Except during pregnancy my weight is constant.

So you have children?

This form has been the doorway to the emergence of two beings.

What do your husband and kids think of your choices of food?

Occasionally there is concern -- since i am not always able to rationalize/vocalize why something feels right for me intuitively.

Do you feel completely satisfied eating the way you do, or do you sometimes crave other foods?

in the past-During emotional challenge -- i used to feel a compulsion to seek comfort in a bowl of rice and lentils - now -- iam more strongly established in my freedom to truly choose what i eat.

I am satiated at all levels.

What was the cooked food you found most difficult to give up?

rice and daal was the deepest part of my food programming that needed to be reprogrammed.

Do you feel any needs to supplement your diet at all?

no supplements.

You have your own orchard right? Do you find that gives you most of what you need, or do you shop around elsewhere too?

the orchard is my supportive family. -- I experience nourishment physically, emotionally, aesthetically -- intellectually -- spiritually amongst these precious WHOLESOME(HOLY) living beings that humanity calls trees/plants.

Are you happy with the choice and quality of fruit you are getting?

They are perfect gifts -- i am so grateful

Do you normally tell people how you eat? If so, what do you think is the most common question people ask you about your diet?

until recently i would share my joy and excitement about my diet with people and urge them affectionately -- to my surprise and bewilderment -- i got angry responses, - i was accused of being judgemental -- now i am more cautious -- but my previous friendships have fallen away.

So how would you answer their questions?

i used to speak with sincerity - with vehemence and urgency - it was my innocence.

i still care, but refrain from speaking -- unless i am specifically asked.

i entrust everyones welfare to the universe.

From the human health concern perspective -- since science is subjective, there will always be many logical reasons to eat or not eat one thing or another.

Do you have a favourite fruit?

whatever is in season tastes best.

So you are getting enough to eat there?

Yes. california is wonderful.

Can you recall the first time you tried any particular fruit?

this morning i got some plumquats. they are smaller than plums. The tree that gifted these fruit is small in stature -- i am surprised to find so much fruit nestled in it.

THE Fruit is cool ruby red, smooth in texture and ever so juicy -- heavenly angel food!

Where and how do you see yourself living and eating in 10 years from now?

I feel very cherished -- where ever i am placed -- will be sufficient.

Do you think you could improve on your diet at all??

I enjoy excellent health--can dance for hours if i wish and often do!

The universe is a living conscious entity -- like me --it reflects my intentions back at me.

The fruitarian diet and lifestyle are perfectly ethical and support life.

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

i am living proof -- trust no one, but the wisdom innate in your own body.

i would wish to encourage everyone to question what is accepted as norm.

Finally, is there anything you'd like to add as words of encouragement to those that are aspiring toward fruitarianism?

I am so excited and happy for aspiring fruitarians.

An exquisite world of aliveness, sensitivity and joy are yours.

It's so simple --- when your choices support life around you -- the universe automatically supports the life in you. It is a mirror of intentionality.

Thanks,
hug,
Mango.

Useful Widget - 1 - Translate my blog to other languages.

For those of you that are unclear.. Widgets are generally comprised of a few short lines of code (usually javascript), that you insert into your webpage. Their reasons for being, are to add additional functionality to your website..

The widget I'm about to show you, will enable you to translate your webpage (or blog) into 1 of about 29 different languages..

OK.. Automatic translation is far from perfect, but is constantly being improved upon.

I remember hearing a story once, of how this translating program, that translated english to russian, and back again, was once fed the sentence:

The spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak..

The program blinked and came up with a sentence in Russian.. The user then took the Russian sentence, and asked the program to translate it back into English..

Another blink, and the program said:

The vodka is good, but the meat is bad..

So..With that in mind.. don't expect any machine translation to be flawless, (often far from it!) but if you still want to get your blog translated, all you have to do is copy and paste the following lines of HTML into your blog:

I've already inserted the code in this blog.. - You can see it to the top right of this page, (provided you haven't turned off javascript in your browser) underneath the Paypal button..

If you need to translate from any language other than English, then you'll need to follow the instructions on the google page (see the link under the displayed widget)

Just choose your language, and press go..

Useful Website - 15 - Send Emails in to the future..

The internet is full of surprises, and here's something I bet you didn't know you could do..

Though admittedly, exactly why one might want to, is a little puzzling...

You can write an email, and have it sent at any time in the future..

I guess there is no guarantee that the services will be around in the long term, but certainly things they are working now..

The first website you can use for this is: http://www.futureme.org/

And the 2nd, which will require registration and log in:

Juice Feasting - June 2008

Kveta and I have just finished another 9 or 10 days of juices.. Something that is becoming a regular monthly thing we do..

I Found a set of scales the day before we started, so can report that my weight was about 57kgs on the first day, and 52kgs on the last day.. thus a small loss of 5kgs over 10 days. (If only all those people struggling with weight problems could realise just how easy it is to loose weight.. All, the body needs is a chance to occupy itself with the task).. Kvetas weight at the start was around 51kgs. Forgot to weigh her in at the end..

Anyhow, here's what we drank:

Reasons to Be Fruitarian

1. Rational Reasons to Be Fruitarian

The following posts cover fruitarianism from what I consider a rational common sense point of view:

Do we all have different nutritional needs?
Common sense view to our fundamental physiological fruitarian natures

2. Environmental Reasons to Be Fruitarian

This one touches on the environmental benefits of fruitarianism:

Environmental Fruitarianism

3. Ethical Reasons to Be Fruitarian

And this post briefly goes into the ethics of fruitarianism

Fruit wants to be eaten..

4. Physiological Reasons to Be Fruitarian

And for the anatomical physiological reasons behind a fruitarian diet see:

Raw Fruit: The Natural Food of Primates

Another Physiological/Anatomical Comparison Chart.. this time with fruitarians..

5. Economical Reasons to Be Fruitarian

And I attempt here to prove that a fruit only diet can be very economical:

Isn't it expensive living on just fruit??
See the posts of what we eat on a monthly basis

Useful Website - 14 - Send and Receive Fax Online.

Send and Receive Faxes online for free..

I've discovered a few ways you can both send and receive faxes online for free, or at least at minimal cost..

I'll deal with receiving a fax first:

1. efax

You can sign up for a free Efax account here (signup is quick and easy!):

https://www.efax.com/en/intl/efax/signupFree?rqcp=2

Their free service will give you a number linked to your email address in one of 8 or 9 or so different countries that you can chose from.. Unfortunately, Australia is not on the list, but US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, and others are.. Remember to chose the "free" option.. As a paid member, you would get a more local number from whichever country you chose, and the possibility to also send faxes, but as a free member, your options are more limited, and you can only receive (not to worry though as I'll be covering sending faxes further down the page)..

I just signed up and have a fax number now that is UK based -  44-7006-060-329 (44 is the international dialing code for the United Kingdom)

If anyone wants to send me a fax to test the service, then please feel free. - If it works as promised, I should receive the fax directly to my email inbox.

2. k7

Alternatively, you can use another online service called k7.

It's basically a web-based unified messaging system that channels your free voicemail and fax messages directly to your e-mail.

The restriction is you just get a US Seattle based (toll free!) number to use for receiving the fax.. To signup click here:

http://fusion.kallback.com/k7/

I just did so too, and my Fax number there, should any kind soul wish to test it out for me, is: (US) 206-202-1192

Apparently if you don't use your account for over a month, they cancel it.. in which case you'll need to sign u again, and get a new number..

There is also an option for you to add personalized call greetings, and there are no restrictions on the number of faxes or voice mail messages one can receive..

So if your interested, simply complete the sign-up and you will be allocated a 10-digit Seattle phone number where people can send faxes or leave you voicemail messages. So as long as you’re fine with a Seattle area code, it’s a great free answering machine and fax-to-email service.

Now on to sending Faxes for free..

So far I've not been able to find a website service that is completely free and unrestricted in terms of where you can send your fax.

1. Faxzero

But the good news is that I have found a service that lets you send a fax for free anywhere in the US or Canada... You just add the details of both the sender and the receiver, attach the document and send! -  This service also adds an extra page with an Ad to the transmitted fax document.) Using their free account, you can send a maximum of 2 faxes daily, with a maximum size each of 3 pages per document.. (the document can be a .DOC file, or a PDF file, or alternatively, you can just enter plain text in the form provided, and send that..

If that's what you want, here's the place to visit:

http://faxzero.com/

2. PamFax

Now, so far, I haven't found another website like option 1, that lets me send faxes outside of the US or Canada, and would really like to see a similar service for Australia or the UK or any other country, so if you know of such a place, please let me know in the comments section..

However, all is not lost.. I have discovered a very nifty little add on to Skype, (for those unfamiliar with Skype, it is a VoIP protocol that lets you make and receive telephone calls via the internet, and is free to use between fellow Skype users, and only minimal cost to calls to non Skype members.. Skype can be downloaded here: http://www.skype.com/download/)

Anyhow, back to the Fax sending..

Once you have Skype installed and setup, you can download the PamFax add on here:

http://www.pamfax.biz/index.php

Just scroll down the page and press the Download button..

Many different file types are supported, and you can basically send faxes anywhere in the world at minimal cost debited from your Skype account.. (Skype can be funded using PayPal.. So you'll need a Paypal account first!)

Hugs,
Mango.

Fruitarian Interview - 17 - John Rhodes

This interview is extracted from the Vegan Views website, and is available in it's original form here:

http://www.veganviews.org.uk/vv70/vv70fruitarian.html

The interview was conducted by Harry Mather. As far as I am aware, John does not have an online presence, (if anyone knows differently, please tell me), he used to be (maybe still is?) contactable via snail mail: Longcause Cottage, Longcause , Dartington , TOTNES , Devon , TQ9 6EY, United Kingdom....

At the time of the interview, John had been practising the diet he outlines throughout the interview, for over 12 years. I do not know if he has made any significant changes since then..

If you were not born vegetarian, what made you become one?
