Why so few succeed at fruitarianism

I've said this before, but it's definitely worth repeating.. So many people fail with a fruitarian diet, or give up thinking it's not for them, purely because they never fully give it a chance..

They fail to understand, just how seriously their health has been previously undermined, just what the amount of damage is, that has previously been inflicted upon the body.. and just how long it will take, to put things right..

In the Edmond Szekely book, "The Essene Science of Fasting", The story goes that Jesus (who was supposedly an Essene, thus borderline Fruitarian with his dietary wisdom), took people into the wilderness to fast.. There he told them, that for each year they had sinned and indulged in eating impure foods, they would have to fast for one day to recover.. Thus a 40 year old, to regain the given birth right of health, would need to fast for 40 days..

Of course, this was just a rule of thumb, and in todays more hi-tech society, with it's excessively denatured greasy fast food burger pizza fries sugar chemical concoctions, I have no doubt that this basic rule would have to be at least tripled, to bring it into the reality of 21st century living..

And of course, too, fasting is probably the most intense form of cleansing the body can undergo, leaving the body with little choice other than to fully focus on detox, elimination and the inevitable healing that comes with such...

So back on a fruit diet, how long do you expect it'll take to fully liberate oneself from previous flaws in ones diet? How long do you think it might take before those erred foods finally finish their influence upon us?

Of course, there is no one answer to those questions, it'ld all depend on ones age, state of health, environment, and more, and the answer may vary greatly from individual to individual, but I'm afraid one thing is for sure, most people quit far in advance of the visibility from the light at the end of the tunnel.

They walk away, disheartened and disillusioned with fruit, thinking it is to blame for their apparently waining health; unaware that in order to get better, the road is tough, and all manner of physical ailments may befall us.

I want to remind everyone of the little story I told (here) of Morris Krok, and how it took him a week to fully free himself from the effect that half a bar of chocolate had on his body.. And for us all to understand the true impact that the conventional diet will have on our frail physiologies.. Actually, I take that back, I think our physiologies are far from frail, given the abuse they are somehow miraculously able to withstand over the course of a lifetime..

Recounting from my own life experience, I recall that after vagabonding my way south, from Norway to the French Pyrenees (an event that took me approximately one year, and 5000 kilometers on my pushbike), I settled for a while in a French Community called "Douceur et Harmonie".. On arriving, I fully believed in the fruitarian diet, but was met with a good deal of opposition there..

Me and my trusty bike were reunited briefly
in Northern NSW 2007.
(after not having seen each other for roughly 8 years!)

I admit, I fully understand their skepticism, as very clearly at the time, I was still regularly battling cooked food addiction, while otherwise struggling to live on a raw vegan, predominantly fruit diet.. The consequences?? Well, I was pretty much constantly detoxing, and thus was undoubtedly far from being the great vision of health I desired to be.. I also had a couple of other major health issues that the universe threw at me, and although both were completely unrelated to the fruit diet, the severity of them sent the community into panic mode, thinking that I was slowly killing myself through lack of culinary wisdom.

I reckon this was the only time in my life, that I've ever experienced anything that was bordering on depression. - Probably due to the ever present detox, my emotions were pretty turmoilic at the time, and I was often experiencing anger too.

I brought my bike and myself to Australia back in 1997..
.. But that's another story

Thankfully, I eventually had the determination enough to move on with my life, and pursue my destiny.. I see everything that has happened to me to be significant in some way, and praise be to the great white spirit, that despite any hardships that I've endured, I've managed through it all to stay focused on what I believe is right, and despite that my own journey to fruit has taken so many years, it is truly joyous to be here, and to know that the path is forever unfolding.

Peace be to all,

The symptoms of detox..

I've already written a little about detox in previous posts, (Some thoughts on Detoxing, The Golden Rules of Detox, Nuts on a fruitarian diet and How long does it take to totally detox), but recently our feline friend Orellio, asked in a comment on the creationism vs evolution post, to write more about the symptoms of detox..

Yeah, well, it's simple really, detox is just the body expelling stuff that shouldn't be in there. And as I've said previously, the main thing you've got to realise is that such expulsions are often unpleasant, uncomfortable or even darn right painful.. (But, looking on the bright side, think of the benefits!)

That's not to say, of course, that every form of physical discomfort we might endure, is a sign of detox.. If we bash an arm against the table, it'll hurt.. if we fall over and scrape our knees it'll likely sting some.. and sometimes, at the stickier end of the stick, we can be just so plain toxic, that the body has plum given up trying to expel stuff. I'd venture to say that cancer is one of those things that occur, once the body has basically become over saturated with toxicity, rendering it so sick, that having been pushed to it's limits, it can no longer take care of itself as it normally would..

But back to the symptoms.. I guess that the most common form of detox that we all know and love so well, is probably the common cold..

Forget the germs, bugs and bacteria.. they are not the issue at all, the real issue is the mucus.. that sludge that blocks up our passages..

Without the mucus, that warm cosy slimey sticky gooey stuff, the germs would have nowhere to call home.

Get rid of the mucus, and there can be no cold, flu, or pneumonia..

As I've sid before, the germs are naught more than flies around a dirty dustbin, and although they may add to the irritation, the real issue is solved by cleaning the dustbin.. Not killing the flies with pharmaceuticals.

Ask any long term, consistent, fruitarian when they last "caught a cold"..

Other symptoms of detox are headaches, (normally due to bloodstream being polluted, and until that "pollution" gets moved around and expelled, the likelihood of the headache disappearing is slim.), stomach aches and the like..

Similarly to cancers, discomforts that are not specifically detox (but clearly related to toxicity) are things like rheumatism, arthritis, certain allergies to natural substances, diabetes, and a whole host of formally differently classified syndromes often baring the name of whichever white-smocked scientist first recognised it's pattern and behaviour under a microscope..

Regardless of whatever latin name such symptoms may be classified under, the fact remains that they are only there, because the body has been polluted. I know it sounds simple, but that's simply because it is. - The truth is simple. Stop the pollution and whatever symptoms are visible, will gradually disappear of their own accord.

This is knowledge that the medical industry seems completely oblivious towards, and it seems they would rather have us believe that headache is caused through lack of asprin in our diet.

The focus may have been shifted from invisible diabolical entities that needed exorcising out of us, to microscopic bacteria that randomly infests us, but nothing has really changed.. - germs can only exist where there is already decaying filth.

I wasn't sure what I was going to write before I started this post.. I just let the words trickle from my fingertips.. and I'm sure they will not be the last on this subject..

Peace,
Mango.

How long does it take to totally clean out ones system?

During my years as a fruitarian, I have been asked on numerous occasions how long it takes before one can bask in the benefits of a fruitarian diet.

Well, in my opinion, one begins benefiting immediately, but clearly that may not always be apparent to the practitioner..

In many cases, it may appear that the reverse might even be true, that one actually feels worse on a fruit diet, as at some point, detox will inevitably raise its ugly head and stick its gnarled clubbed foot in the door..

How long it will take to get totally clean will be different for each individual, taking from just weeks for some, and many months or possibly even years, for others..

It will all depend on age and state of health, and living environment, quality of fruit, and surely other factors that are too many to mention.

As a rule of thumb, the younger and healthier one is, the easier and smoother things should flow, and the quicker the benefits of fruitarianism should be visible..

Fruit the Food and Medicine for Man (click to order)To make it more clear what you actually have to contend with, I would like to mention a story Morris Krok mentioned in one of his books.

Morris had been on a predominantly fruitarian diet for some years (It's been some years since I read the story, so bare in mind that I'm quoting from memory, and don't have exact details of the story handy). Anyhow, he was in peak physical health and was running marathons on a pretty regular basis, often travelling around his country (south Africa) to attend different organised marathons..

On one particular occasion, he travelled to a town and checked in to a motel in preparation for a marathon due to begin the following morning.. That evening, while relaxing in his room, someone knocked at his door..

Morris got up to see who was there, and to his surprise, a woman he had not seen for many years stood in front of him. - An old flame.. - Let's call her Doris, just to give the story some added flavour. Morris and Doris had been going out together years previously, some time before Morris had moved onto a fruitarian diet.

Now Doris had heard rumors that Morris was in town and staying at the local Motel, so thought she would surprise him with an impromptu visit.. Not wanting to arrive empty handed however, she took a bar of chocolate along with her... And not just any old bar, mind, but a particular branded bar that she knew was (or had been) Morris's favourite..

Now Morris was taken aback and pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face in an unfamiliar setting, and for whatever reason or excuse he may have given himself, he decided to share the chocolate with Doris, and together, they slowly polished off the chocolate bar while reminiscing on days that once were..

...Now on to the result.. And this is pretty profound, so I really hope you can all learn something from it.. brace yourself!

The following morning, Morris awoke with terrible cramps.. I think in his legs, but they may have also been his stomach.. So severely it affected him, that he was not only unable to run the marathon he had intended, but also he recalls that it took him one whole week before he had fully recovered and felt his normal fit self!!

So think about that.. If it can take a healthy body one whole week to recover from just half a bar of chocolate, image how long it will take for a body to recover from 20, 30, 40, 50 years of constant dietary mistakes!?!?..

So please please don't expect immediate noticeable results, but do rejoice if you should get them!!

Hugs to one and all,
Mango.

Nuts in a fruitarian diet??

Me in SpainLet me tell you why I don't do them..

For starters, they are not fruit.. Much as many might classify them as such..

And as a fruitarian, I try to avoid eating the seed of a plant, unless it is so intricately entwined with the fruit itself, that eating it together with the fruit is pretty unavoidable. (as is the case with pomegranate, tomato, passion fruit, kiwi, etc etc). In these cases, I see the seed as ultimately benefiting from or profiting through being swallowed unavoidably whole, as the digestion process will actually help kick start whatever enzymes are in the seed needed to get it germinating. Thus the deal is symbiotic for both us, and the plant.

However, there are other reasons too..

You may not be aware of this, but I believe all natural fresh ripe and ready foods eaten mono on an empty stomach, have what a group in France have christened an "instinctive stop"..

I've studied their philosophy somewhat (more on that in another blog entry), and certainly can't say that I am in agreement with it in it's entirety, but certainly there are aspects of it that are worthy of consideration.. The instinctive stop being one such item..

The instinctive stop is recognisable through a change in flavour.. It can bring on tingling sensations, or burning sensations, or just subtle changes in flavour of the fruit, rendering the fruit in question no longer as appealing as it was at the beginning of the (mono) meal..

An easy example of this, that you are probably already familiar with, is the burning sensation you might get if you eat too much pineapple.. That is your body telling you "Stop!.. Don't eat anymore.. that is enough now.."..

But the "stop" may be more subtle.. it may just be that whatever it is you are eating, suddenly becomes less appealing to you. Listen to these signs, as your body is telling you in it's own way, that it is finished with that now..

Compare this with any cooked food, - there is no instinctive stop with cooked or processed foods.. Eat chocolate, and your body will scream out insatiably "more more!".. It is easy to push things over the limit, overdo things, and consequently render yourself sick.. In fact, the intellect has to kick in and say "That's enough now! Break it up", because if it doesn't, the intellect knows the consequences..

But that's not how it should be.. The body should always be the one that decides..

On a fruit diet (keeping things simple and not over mixing as many raw fooders habitually do), you are safe to keep eating until the foods appeals no more.. There is no chance of putting on weight, or making yourself sick through over eating (provided the fruit is truly fresh, ripe and ready to eat without bruises or mold).

So.. Back to the nuts.. Did you know that pretty much ALL commercially available nuts are heat treated. I can think of no exception...

As such, there is no "instinctive stop" with nuts.. And your body will crave the addictiveness of them, thus be unable to truthfully tell you that enough is enough..

There have been times that I have found and eaten freshly fallen nuts directly from under the tree. These are commonly called "wet nuts" (due to them still being fresh and moist and soft), and they differ tremendously from the commercially available "dry nuts".. I can honestly report, that after eating 2 or 3 "wet" walnuts, I got a clear recognisable feeling of taste change, and the food became unappealing, just as it is supposed to.

Drawing from another experience, I think it was Christmas 2001, I was working night shift at the post office sorting department. Throughout much of the day I slept, and late afternoon, evening, with it being too cold outside (this is back in the UK, snow on the ground etc.etc.) I minimized my shopping and thought I'd sustain myself on predominantly nuts. I think I must have devoured about half a kilo of nuts (weight with the shells) every day for 2 weeks..

The consequence, I made myself sick sick sick.. My body struggled to cleanse itself, and basically knocked me out for about 3 weeks.

Fruit would never do that!

Make no bones.. Commercially available nuts, or any dried nuts, are cooked food, they are as moreish as some cooked foods, and the consequences are the same... Intoxication!!

The Germ Theory Myth

Any doctors out there reading this?

Correct me if I'm misinformed, but I've been told that during the 5 or so years one studies to become a doctor, only 2 or 3 weeks of that time is spent studying nutrition..

Now, all things considered, that does strike me as being rather odd.

I would have thought it pretty obvious that nutrition plays an important role in our healths, and that a good knowledge of nutrition is all the general run of the mill GP might really need to know..

Instead, I am lead to believe, that being a doctor is primarily about learning to recognise symptoms, and knowing what medication can be used to suppress them..

Lorakeets

In bygone days, before science took over the world, sick people were occasionally diagnosed as being possessed by invisible diabolical entities..

Really, things haven't changed that much.. Nowadays those invisible diabolical entities are called "germs", or the like.. And their presence is what the medical community has swallowed, hook line and sinker, as being the enemy..

But I strongly believe that they (the health industry) are .. How can I best put it? - Barking up the wrong tree!!

Centuries of man hours.. billions of dollars.. has been squandered.. In in vain attempts to defeat the wrong enemy..

..Think about it..

Cockatoo in the park

Germs are, no doubt, forever evolving and mutating themselves, and it's unlikely we'll ever be rid of them, so why are we even trying?..

The real issue is not the germs..

What the medical industry so conveniently manages to avoid seeing, is that a germ infested body, is comparable to a fly infested dustbin..

Can they not see the folly of continuously reinventing the fly spray needed to kill the super fly that mutates?

Would it surely not be so much easier to clean the dustbin? To teach the owner of the bin how to clean it and explain how to prevent it from getting dirty again..

Ibis

This is a profound truth that the medical industry chooses to ignore:

GERMS CAN ONLY EXIST WHERE THERE IS ALREADY DECAYING FILTH..

In essence, all dis-ease, no matter which cleverly coined latin name it has been allocated, has the same basic cause.. It is really quite simple. Toxemia.. the gradual (or more rapid) poisoning of the body through eating, inhaling or injecting things which one basically shouldn't.. Whether it be car exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, heroin or even plain old kentucky fried pizza burgers.. All will eventually pollute the body enough to cause it dis-ease of some latin form or another...

In fact, I would not be at all surprised if we were to learn that germs are more of an alli then an enemy.. They feast on the decaying filth and do their bit to help clean it up.

But if you don't want them.. then, the solution.. Stop the pollution!

Stop killing your food, stop cooking your food..

Eat more fruit!!!

Hugs,
Mango.

The golden rules of detox..

While transiting to a fruitarian diet, some amount of detox is pretty much inevitable..

Here are some points to remember:

  1. Detox is a good thing, - and not your enemy.
  2. Detox is never pleasant.
  3. Detox can take on many different and varied forms and guises.
  4. Detox can be sped up (but also intensified!) by not eating!!
  5. Future detox can be vastly prevented, but it is generally wise to not stop present detox.
  6. All consumed cooked foods, will (eventually) be the cause of some detox.
  7. Detox can sometimes appear to be ongoing. Especially if you eat a high percentage of raw vegan foods and small amounts of cooked foods.
  8. Certain food combinations can cause detox.
  9. Detox is an emergency elimination.
  10. Most forms of dis-ease from which we suffer are predominantly some form of detox or other..
  11. Detox is the bodies way of cleansing itself as it strives toward optimum health.
  12. Detox is initiated for 2 main reasons.. Either because the body decides that it is in desperate need of a spring clean, or because the body is invaded by an external menace (that incidentally, can only thrive where filth is present (germs - more about that in a later post to follow)).
  13. Remember.. Your headache is not caused by lack of aspirin in your diet!!!

Some thoughts on detoxing

The anatomical body is generally occupied by 4 major tasks..

1. Digestion.
2. Assimilation.
3. Elimination.
4. and Healing..

And generally speaking, that's the priority in which those 4 tasks are undertaken.

As you can see, healing is last on the list, which is the basic reason why not eating (fasting) will pretty much always speed up the healing process... (that's pretty profound.. think about it!)

About to tarzan swing into the pond..

But back to detox.. Detox is a sort of emergency elimination.. When the body, with it's own innate wisdom, decides to put other things on hold, and concentrate all efforts on elimination.. And because it's a sort of emergency situation, emergency elimination organs are brought into play..

Some of the more common forms of detox, bring on nausea, headaches, stomach cramps, dizziness and much more, and are generally accompanied by a loss of appetite.. The common cold is probably the most common form of major detox the body regularly initiates, and as such, it is wise to not suppress it with medicines or pills.. Your body knows what it is doing, trust it, and don't try and fight it.

Understand this: Detox is a good thing! It is your body spring cleaning, without it, the body would become so saturated with toxins, that it would most surely keel over and die.. So much as you may feel horrible and miserable and negative through detox, it is actually really a very positive thing, and shows that your body is still functioning as it should..

Now you have to bring your mind into sync with it, because the mind is the tricky thing, the spanner in the works..

If you can genuinely understand what it is that makes us detox, then you are really more than halfway toward freeing yourself from detox..

Remember It isn't detox that is the enemy!!

When we transit from the standard cooked food diet of zombie flesh and stodgy lasagna dumpling pies, or whatever it is that one eats, onto a lighter diet, (whether it be vegetarian, vegan, raw food, or fruitarian), we are generally giving the body a reprise.. an ease back on tasks 1 and 2, such that the body can concentrate more on elimination.. Thus we suddenly may feel worse..

We may feel worse, but in reality, we are actually getting better!!

Detox may hit us especially strongly when going on to a raw food, or even more so, fruitarian, diet.. This is because fruit as a food, conains highly cleansing properties, and will encourage your body to cleanse itself.

So don't despair.. be aware!

And think about this.. - Eating large amounts of fruit, and small amounts of cooked food, can sometimes cause your body to be in apparent permenant state of detox..I have experienced thismyself, and I know how it can be discouraging for those who practice such, as well as for those around us..

This is why some people fail at fruitarianism, because they never go the full hog.. They get sooo close, but because they hang on to vices and addictions they've had, they are pulled back down into them, believing the fruit diet is just not for them..

Moving on to a fruit only diet, some detox is inevitable... But be patient, and give yourself time to adjust and cleanse, and you will come through it stronger and healthier..

OK.. As I've mentioned before, I am workingon a book, but it is slow in the making. I will advertise it on this blog whenever it is done, but I don't know when that will be..

Splash!!

health to us all,
Mango.
