What we ate in March 2008, and how much it cost.

This is a rough estimate of everything we ate last month, and how much it cost us.

Fruit Quantity Cost
Avocados 90 $90
Bananas 30 $7.59
Capsicum 1kg $2
Cherimoya 1kg $3.70
Cucumbers 5.5 kgs $7.33
Durian 40 kgs (including shells) $124.68
Grapefruits 7 $3.5
Grapes 35 kgs $59.00
Longans 1.5 kg $9.90
Lychees 1 kg $5.77
Honeydew Melons 2 $3
Rock Melon 3 $4.00
Nectarines 4 Kg $10.26
Oranges 17 kgs $15
Peaches 1 kg $2.10
Pears 9 kg $9.30
Pineapple 1 $1.50
Tamarind .7 kg $3.50
Tomatoes 7 kgs $11.47

Totalling $384.10 Which means that we averaged $12.39 for 2 of us each day on food.. That's less than $7 each! (Australian dollars per day).

Now that's budgetting! Considering that most people living here would need easily 5 or more times that amount each day depending on the state of their toxicity.. feeding addictions such as tobaco and alcohol as well as the take-away fast food cravings that regularly also get appeased.

Bare in mind that we generally eat an average of 5 or 6 different things each day, and that I fast on Fridays, and that we did about 10 days just on watermelon juice.. (see here: Days of juice feasting March 2008), then it should give a very rough idea of what we might eat on a daily basis..

To see more of what we eat on a more or less day to day basis, then head on over to Kveta's blog, where she tends to give rough summarys of what we both eat daily.

Interview with a Fruitarian - 12 - Robert Everett

12th in my series of interviews with fruitarians. (If you are fruitarian, and would like to be interviewed too, please contact me, or leave a comment - read this first: List of Fruitarian Interviews)

Hi Rob, www.myspace.com/fruit4life

Many thanks for agreeing to be interviewed!

Could you please start off by telling us all a little about yourself, how old you are, where you are living/grew up?

Rob on fruitarian dietI'm 39 years young, will be 40 in October. I'm originally from Houston, Texas. I now live in Idaho Falls Idaho. I moved here in 1979 from Texas, well because thats where my dad moved us and I've been here ever since.

I don't like the cold here, winter months are long, but spring and summer here is beautiful. Hiking for me is what I like to do. I like to go mountain biking also. I have a back pack I use to pack my fruit in and it works well.

I am divorced, I have 2 awesome boys, one is 15 his name is Austin and the other is 12 and his name is Ian. I am a local truck driver.

Just to give us an idea of how it all used to be for you, could you tell us What kind of diet you grow up with? What did you used to eat on an average day?

Well I ate whatever was put in front of me, your basic meat, vegetable, and potatoes or mac-n -cheese or something. Hamburgers, fries, candy, soda, cookies, you know, the typical western SAD diet. And I was a pig! I INHALED my food literally! didn't take the time to properly chew or anything, just huffed it down.

I was overweight all my teen years, VERY overweight to the tune of about 230 lbs at 13. I smoked my first cigarette at 16, then began drinking.

I dropped out of school in the 11th grade. I got married at 18. We had 2 kids, made it 12 years and divorced. I quit smoking 3 different times and this time is the final time! I WILL NOT smoke again! I stopped drinking, and I was a bad alcoholic and also used drugs but thats all behind me.

Rob on the omnivore diet

Compare that to now, what does a typical days food intake look like for you now?

Well now a typical day would be:
6 oranges after I run 2.5 miles
mid-morning 1 bundle of bananas (usually 7)
lunch time 2 lbs of grapes
mid-afternoon another bundle of bananas (7)
late afternoon 3 to 4 avocados and tomatoes mixed
evening 4 to 6 more oranges or
sometimes strawberries about a pound of them

I fast 2 days a week, usually Mondays and Tuesdays, water fast

I've never tried dry fasting.

To break the fast I eat oranges.

I'm working on more variety of fruits as spring comes in and there's more available.
And I like to eat the avocados during the day while I'm active.

I only mono eat with the exception of avocados sometimes i mix with tomatoes, because its really GOOD!

Especially if the avocado is soaked in fresh juiced lemons!

So when did things start to change for you? Did you progress slowly to vegetarianism, veganism, raw food and fruitarianism, or was it more of a sudden change for you?? What sparked those changes?

I stopped eating meat January 2007 and became vegan. November 8, 2007 I went 100% RAW after completing 14 days on the Master Cleanse. December 2006 I weighed 250 lbs.

Rob prior to discovering fruit

December 2006 I peaked with a weight of 250 lbs, that's where it started. this was the heaviest i'd ever been. I was sick of it! I immediately stopped meat in January '07 and also cut out soda pop, candy, processed foods, anything in a can or box etc i stopped, and began eating veggies and fruit instead. I still steamed the veggies or boiled them, so at that point I guess I became vegan. then on the 8th November 2007, I went 100% raw after the 14 days master cleanse. (That was truly an awesome experience. To not eat for 14 days for me was incredible!) and In January 08 I went 100% fruit.

After fasting and eating raw and the master cleanse, I now weigh 165 lbs. I bottomed out at 155. My BMI is 23 so I'm at the normal weight.

I feel incredible and have a TON of energy!

There were 3 particular people who sparked me to do this and they are the fruitarian one AKA F-1 or Blackman. Mango, Lol, YOU! And Suvine. I saw how y'all have done it for long periods and are thriving and doing well so I jumped in the boat and went for it! And I absolutely love it! it is truly the way we were designed to eat! fruit and fruit only. It is also best for digestion.

So I would say the change was gradual for me.

So you have complete faith in the 100% fruit diet right? - What's your take on supplements - Stuff like vitamin pills, spirulina or similar? Are you at all concerned about not getting enough calcium/protein/B12/whatevers??

Absolutely! Fruit is all we need! Protein and calcium, its all there in the fruit, and variety is key to get all the nutrients. Oranges and grapes are great sources for protein and calcium and avocados to me are the balance of the diet. I dont use any supplements, i dont feel we need them, we have all the nutrients we need in the fruit. Super foods to me are also unnecessary.

I don't worry about calories, nutrients, or any of it. I just eat when hungry and eat till full although I over eat a lot but hey, I LOVE fruit!

How do you feel eating just fruit?

Fruit is MAGIC! I feel unstoppable! I have a ton of energy and I need less sleep now than I used to.

I wake before my alarm goes off ready for the day! I love not having to do dishes or anything in the kitchen other than peel and eat!
Taking my fruit with me on the go is simple, its all so easy and the best way to live!

Well, your body really went under radical changes to get to where you are now! That's an incredible transformation!

Yes, Like I said, I was 250 lbs, overweight, miserable and I had high blood pressure too. I now weigh 165 and my blood pressure has been normal and remains normal since I gave up meat and especially since i switched to fruit, and running 2.5 miles 4 times a week and riding my bike has helped as well.

Do you know of many other fruitarians, online or offline?

I only know 4. You, the fruitarian one, suvine, and Dave mason, and as far as where I live I feel pretty isolated.

What do your parents think of you being fruitarian? What about the rest of your family, do you have brothers/sisters?

They are of mixed emotion about it. they feel I need protein and calcium which they don't understand I get PLENTY of! They are simply not used to me being so skinny now. they feel I'm malnurished.

"you cant just live on fruit" they all say. But they just don't understand. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters and they are just like "whatever" do what you want! But they are finally seeing the results of my transition and I'm looking real good. I went thru a period of looking like complete crap when i was detoxing and I was pretty bad looking. but people don't understand we are pretty much rebuilding our bodies! Cleaning out the junk and rebuilding! Old cells with new healthy ones!

Do you or have you suffered at all from cravings, or have you ever binge eaten? how do/did you deal with such times?

No suffering here. I miss things but I have adapted so well to fruit i feel that I've overcome the old ways(cooked). I still binge eat, I eat when I'm not hungry simply because I love fruit! Especially bananas! and avocados! I am working on that at this time though trying to only eat what I need and not what I want.

What's the fruit quality and choice like where you live now?

We have a co-op opening up in May finally so the quality will definitely be there. but as for now organics are limited and expensive. I just eat conventional fruit. When one regularly fasts and the fruit itself is clensing I dont worry about pesticides and such. Our bodies are designed to clean up and when your collon and intestines are clean and your immune system is working well there is no worries about conventional fruit

Have you done much travelling? Do you have a favourite place, or somewhere that the fruit suply really impressed you?

I haven't been anywhere But Idaho since 1987 when i went back to Texas for a reunion, I miss Texas because I love the heat, and don't like the cold.

If I had a choice place to live being fruitarian it would definitely be Hawaii!

Do you normally tell people how you eat? If so, what do you think is the most common question(s) people ask you about your diet, and how do you answer it/them?

Sure if they ask. And the most common question is where do I get my protein, lol, almost getting annoying! I just tell them Oranges and grapes, avocados.

Do you perhaps have a favourite fruit?

Definitely ripe bananas!  the spotted ones!

Can you recall the first time you tried one?

I can't recall the first time but i will say that after the master cleanse, when i went for 100% fruit, I never realized until then how GOOD fruit really is!

I never ate fruit when I was on the SAD diet, just chips, candy, and junk. Now that's SAD!

Just as I am! Eating fruit and playing outside like I was a kid, and I am a kid, lol. I would love to go to a warmer tropical climate but that's up to my kids.

I want to spend all my time with them, they are my whole world! I love my kids very much!

While on the subject of your boys, what's their take on dads change in food -  do they eat more fruit too?

My boys are amazed at the vibrant health I have and my energy levels daily. I dont get sick even when they are sick around me.

They are eating more and more fruit when they are with me but sadly enough when they go back to moms they have to eat what she feeds them which is the SAD diet of cooked and processed foods. they have asked their mom if she would buy fruit and she says no and that their dad (me) is stupid for only eating fruit and that I'm malnurished and unhealthy, which is far from the truth! My x-wife has no idea how healthy I am and how great I feel. So all I can do for now is feed them fruit when they are here. My oldest will be 15 on sunday the 27th of april and pretty soon he can make his own choices where he isn't doomed to what his mother feeds him.

I've tried to explain things to her but she just laughs at me but thats ok. I've done my homework on fruitarianism, and I am 100% sure its right for me. My boys will soon come around I feel!

Do you envisage any further enhancements to your diet or do you feel happy with how it is now?

I am happy with it! It's the BEST way to live. I'd like to eat more organic eventually but for now all I can afford is conventional.

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

I just laugh at them! because I know they're wrong and I'm healthier than I've been in YEARS! Like when I was 6! LOL! they can say what they will! I just shrug it off! and of course i love to see others interested in this lifestyle and have no problem telling them about it!

I love to see before and afters. I have some of those for this interview,

Do you have a website or blog?

www.myspace.com/fruit4life

Finally, is there anything you'ld like to add as words of encouragement to those that are aspiring toward fruitarianism?

You will go thru DETOX! And feel and look like crap but never fear! It passes, as far as how long depends on the individual. I made it thru it and I feel like a new man and I mean it! Just do it! you'll love it! There is much more to life than eating, only eat to live not live to eat! Food is fuel not a hobby or something to do.

Fantastic, thanks Rob, I am sure with your story you'll really be able to influence others to eat better!!

Movement against Fruitarianism

If they are to succeed, Fruitarians must struggle against the current of the masses..

This should not be a surprise to anyone, as the vast majority of people out there, are predisposed to believing that the idea of just eating fruit is, at best, ludicrous and at worst, downright life threatening..

Having been in this business for long enough, I am well aware of all the standard thoughts and arguments that oppose fruitarianism and fruit eating.. Once the standard nutritional arguments have been exhausted, name calling is generally the next tactic, with such labels as idealists, extremists and radicals readily branded..

Having also moved through the ranks of vegetarian, vegan, and rawfoodism in order to reach where I am today, I am not at all new to any of the above tags, and in a strange way even feel partially complimented by them. Being a pioneer has it's rewards, if only getting to experience things of beauty that others that stay put with their indoctrinated dietary believes never get to see.

If we can step aside from any feeling of being insulted, we will see that the opposition are in fact correct.. - We are indeed extremists, radicals and idealists..

- Extreme and Radical, because compared to the cooked flesh and mush diet, fruitarianism is extreme..(but not any more than the cooked flesh and mush diet is extreme in comparison to fruitarianism).. They are both at different ends of the scale..One being extremely unhealthy and decreasing life expectancy, and the other being extremely healthy and increasing life expectancy.. Of course there are many and varied stages in between, but being in the middle of the scale, doesn't make things balanced, it just makes things either better or worse, depending on what the comparison is made with. Radical!

- Idealists, because we often believe that things as they generally stand can be improved upon, and that by helping to avoid unnecessary harm and destruction to the environment, we are basically doing the world and ourselves a favour..

So yeah, I am an idealist.. I am pretty convinced within myself, that the world could be a far better place than it is now, and that changing diets globally would help to serve that cause.. I do believe that not killing (or paying others to do so) to the best of ones ability is a good move, I do believe that animals should be given their freedom, and not be used, misused or abused, in order to feed the masses with their imprisoning mind altering drug foods of cheesy egg flesh. I do believe that physiologically too, cooked foods are addictive and detrimental to health. And yeah, I abdominally believe, from my own experience, that nothing compares to fruit. It is the highest of all foods.

I consider myself extremely, radically fortunate to have arrived at the thoughts I have today through the path I have taken. And perhaps it is that slow but steady path which has strengthened me in my world view.. For each step I have taken, I have done so after first weighing up the options and using my intellect to see things as they truly are, and not only as we are lead to believe them to be... So each step has been with firm conviction and feelings of joy and liberation..

I say no to a world of war, drugs, environmental destruction and blood shed, and yes to Eden, and a sharing caring fruit loving environmentally friendly world..

Peace to all,
Mango.

Slightly different scenario this month.. Nothing really jumped out as being in abundance and in season so instead of just mono juicing as previously, we decided to go with just mixing what we had in the blender and drinking it..

Unlike previous juice feasts, we never really had a proper cut off point, but instead kind of ate a little toward the end of the juices, but continued juicing..

Kveta writes it all in more detail in her own journal.

Personally, I think I refer the affects of a mono juice feast, as to be honest, just blending ones food before drinking it is rather like just eating it.. I don't believe I exerienced any of the normal symptoms that one does with mono juice feasting.. no special cleansing, no weight loss, no feeling that I really wanted to eat anything elsetoward the end..

Nevertheless, I am sure that it was beneficial and gave the body a certain amount of freedom and rest.

hugs,
Mango.

Interview with a Fruitarian - 11 - Kveta

11th in a series of interviews with fruitarians.. Kveta is my partner.

Hi Kveta,

You're 51 this year (next month), and have been living in Australia for the past 22 or 23 years.. You escaped communism in order to get here, can you tell us a little about how that was for you?

It was extremely difficult to leave everything I had behind, but i was in a situation when i had to leave in order to save my life. i knew very little about the existence of Australia and most other countries outside of Europe and ussr. but i was very fortunate to know someone who had contact with some people who lived in oz. all i really knew was that most of australia was snow free with sunshiny warm and hot days and flowers all year around. well, i thought how amazing, i had never heard of such a thing. yes, i truly lived behind the iron wall.

coming to australia was for me a true rebirth. suddenly i was on a different planet. EVERYTHING WAS DIFFERENT. i had left the gray world behind and entered a colorful one. from a negative world to a positive one. i lived my freedom. i was free, amazed and happy. from day one i was at home.

Kveta with a jackfruit 2007

I understand that you became fruitarian shortly after moving here.. I can imagine there must have been much more variety of fruit than you were used to from former czechoslovakia?! - You must have seen fruits that you'ld never even heard of?

yes, the fruit was/is not only in abundance but big on variety. oh, i was always huge fruit lover, and in communism there was so little choice with everything - including fruit. for example one of my favorite fruits, the banana was only in the shops at christmas and easter time with a limit of 1kg per family,. it had more value than gold for me./well that's just a figure of speech, as gold had never any value for me. - So me and my brother could only have one banana a day for few days. so you can imagine how i felt when suddenly there were bananas everywhere and heaps of them!!!ha, ha, i was not fruitarian in my head yet, but surely in action: i said i am going to eat only bananas till i get sick of them, well,i never did, and i am sure i was eating only fruit for the first few days, mainly just bananas. all this did help my path to fruit diet.

The subtropical and tropical fruits i knew of, were pineapple /had only one/, bananas, oranges, mandarines, grapefruits and lemons. from melons i knew only watermelon, they were in the shops only for a few days each summer. every kid used to get very excited. so, yeah, i was in fruit heaven here in sydney with huge fruit shops everywhere. so, again i was naturally eating mainly fruit of course. i never forget my first times: the first time when i opened rockmelon, honey dew melon, how can i ever forget my first mango! etc...

Up until you decided to eat just fruit, had you been on a vegetarian or vegan diet first?

yes, i was 3 years ethical vegan. before that only short time ethical vegetarian.

Did you switch to a fruit diet over night, or was it a gradual process for you?

yes, over night.i was born fruitarian within and from that day i was eating just fruit.

Was there any particular thought/event or person that convinced or persuaded you to go over to fruitarianism?

yes, there were many thoughts about food and the biblical do not kill...i convinced and persuaded myself to go over to fruitarianism. i had never heard of anyone who lived only on raw fresh fruit before, and besides from my ex husband, for a long time after too.

What benefits do you think you have from living on fruit only?

The benefits are as abundant as fruit is. about that i wish to write a whole book! from my many positive experiences i am conviced that humans are fruitarians.

Are there any drawbacks you can think of?

No, i do not have problem to be different. Oh, yes, at times i am upset to see others suffer due to unnatural lifestyle, and i wish i have magic powers to turn everyone in to healthy happy fruitarian. the thorn in my eye are the people who come across as fruitarians on the web but in real life they are not.

What about your teeth, how have they been?

My teeth were damaged a lot from being on a toxic diet since the time i was conceived. From the time i became fruitarian, some of my damaged teeth needed some dental attention. Mostly i helped myself with fresh aloe vera gel.

Living on a fruit diet for such a long time, you must have surely met other people doing the same thing? Can you tell us a little about them? How long had you been practising fruitarianism before you met another fruitarian? When and who was that person?

Kveta in prague 2006first practicing fruitarian was my ex husband whom come with me to australia. he became fruitarian the same time as me only for different reasons than me: i was feeding him, he loved fruit, and to save as much money as possible /my idea/ for the first 6 months we lived on the cheapest fruit that was available, mostly bananas, oranges, melons. we saved money on electricity: no cooking no fridge. He, as I, was a small eater and didn't fuss much about food. He would eat anything what was given to him. i never really discussed my reasons why i decided to live on fruit only. true he was at times binging cooking for himself /i refused to cook/kill spaghetti with tomato sauce and at times he would get pizza.alcohol. i noticed it made him depressed and alcohol aggressive. but there were months and months when he would eat only raw fresh fruit. traveling living very simply. walking swimming a lot...we never spoke about it. He was bit introverted, but i very soon noticed he looked very very healthy compared to others and he was happy and an easy person to be around. he went back to eating vegetarian cooked food and alcohol soon after we separated.

Did you notice any big difference to your health and vitality after moving to a fruit diet?

yes, even though i was someone without big health problems i noticed a big difference in my health and vitality within few weeks on raw fresh fruit only. i never thought i could feel better...so much better. i kinda turned in to different being. i fell in love with myself. i love to be.

From a bad car accident, you're spine was broken when you were just 13 years old, and despite being told by doctors that you would never walk again, you are able to do so, do you think fruit helped toward your recovery?

yes, i do believe my love for fruit helped my recovery after the spinal cord injury. i was told i would be lucky to sit down. but it was not fruit alone, it was my mind as well. and god. the day of my accident has an interesting story i would also love to publish in one of my books.

It's clear you still have some healing to do from the spinal injury, do you think you will be healed completely?

yes, yes, yes, i am having at times very strong healing sensations in my legs and there is gradual positive healing progress since i am all fruity.

How did your parents react when you told them you ate only fruit and nothing else? How was your diet whilst growing up?

well, my parents knew from letters that i live on fruit alone. they kinda ignored it. but when i visited them for first time few years after the iron wall fell, they were acting like they were ok with it. i believe they thought i was just insane. my father said that he was not surprised, as i ate grass all my life, grazing in the meadows. by that he meant all plants + eating from meadows as well. mum used to call me at times our caterpillar, because i used to eat raw fruit veg and meadows with zest.or by my father goat: you are like a goat, you have to pick and eat all vegetation..

my diet as child was rich on raw fresh fruit as it always was my favorite food and my parents used to buy heaps of fruit in season to pickle for the winter. so i ate and ate and ate.i ate plenty of fruit straight from the trees, mainly cherries, apples, plums, plenty of fresh blueberies picked by my mum daily, and lot of mushrooms she also picked daily. she still does. i also loved every raw or cooked edible plant. eggs and potatoes.lot of strawberries carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, currants/red white black/, cabbage, lettuce, capsicum, and some others...

i was pushed in to meals full of fatty gravies, meat, dumplings, sweet meals,

Do you think you've been any influence to them at all to eat more healthily?

yes, they are eating more fruit for sure, and my mum when she is with me on holidays, she eats 80% raw fresh fruit. but after she met you, mango, another fruitarian, she took my fruity existence more seriously and she is lately eating much better: she cut out a lot of fat and meat, bread and grains, and she eats a lot of fresh fruit and raw, or cooked vegetables. she is loosing weight and she feels better.

Kveta amongst the avocados - 2007

What's your take on all this vitamin/protein/trace element thing that seems to concern most people interested in fruitarianism?

i am not /never was/ concerned about vitamins and proteins. why should i be? i feel great.

What's the most common question you've been asked once people learn that you are on an all fruit diet??

where do you get your proteins? iron? calcium. omega 3. are you always hungry?

After 23 years on fruit, I can see that you don't get cravings for food other than fruit, but did you ever? What was the non-fruitarian food that you missed most or was the hardest for you to live without??

potatoes. my mums potato salad. were hardest to live without.

i use to crave everything at times, but i would not give in, it was against my believe/religion, i could not afford it /spiritually/, and later on it just was not around. so true is there was times where i would cry for potato, but that never took long...and after some time not only cravings left me, but also the toxic cooked stuff i use to eat smell terrible and it not appeal to me at all.

What's the worst thing you've eaten whilst being fruitarian, and how did it feel after you ate it?

At times i get strange yucky tasting fruit that lacks sweetness and it's natural flavour, and at times i may accidentally bite in to a rotten peace of fruit and that is so disgusting...i am also very sensitive to the toxic mold and if i accidentally eat some rotten fruit my skin gets itchy and my mood changes to depression, or some other negative feelings i do not have control over.

Do you have a favourite fruit?

oh, yes without doubt my favourite fruit is magic durian. it is always unique and exciting eating experience for me.

Can you recall the first time you tried one?

yes, very clearly, how can i forget? i was on fruit for 20 years before i, thanks to you, had my first durian. i loved the durian aroma and when i opened it i did not like much the look of it. - it looked like brain to me even though it was not shaped that way, but the truth is, brains have similar consistency. but curiosity won over the unknown and i was in heavens with first taste. now as a well experienced durian eater i know that i was lucky and my first durians were of top quality. durian truly enriched my fruitarian lifestyle, no other fruit is so sacred to me.

What do you think would be a typical days eating for you? Can you just give an example of what you might eat on an average day?

what i eat is recorded in my fruitarian journal.. i eat when i'm hungry, i don't follow any other rules./time, amount/. i eat all fruit raw and fresh, and i drink juices and smoothies straight away after they are made. i do not store fruit in the fridge and i eat and drink it at room temperature.

Obviously you seem comfortable on such a diet, but do you think it could be improved on? How do you see yourself eating 10 years from now??

oh, yeah, i love to improve quality of fruit, in ten year i hope for eating fruit from the trees grown by me and you. i think i will be drinking more fruit juices, feast on mono fruit juices more often, and the same with fasting.

Where and how do you see yourself living in 10 years from now?

i see my self in ten years time living with you on our land somewhere in tropics, eating from our trees all our favorite fruit. i love to live very simply playing all day hopefully with other ethical vegan pets free fruitarians.

What do you think is the secret of your success?

existence of god, love and wisdom. cooked food is highly toxic and addictive, and should be treated as any other drugs. if you want to be free you have to let go and do not give in. just like recovering alcoholics, heroin addicts, etc. most people get trapped in vicious circle of addiction in name of "transformation" or „transitioning“.

Do you think you've been an influence on other people you've met, to eat more fruit?

yes, i influenced almost everyone in some level. some became fruitarians, but later failed for several reasons.

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly live on just fruit?

i feel happy, cos i think it is funny. i usually tell them: i am not the one with questions, medication/s and crying about my health problems.

Finally, is there anything you'ld personally like to add/say, maybe some words of encouragement to others wishing to eat just fruit?

yes, if you love to eat just fruit, begin in your mind. change your views and priorities about food and your environment. practice self love, self awareness and assertiveness. set your priorities. seek and you will find. if you are not ready in your mind, you will be falling again, again and again...

Thanks Kveta..

Crazy World News - 1- Cookie Diet, Grandads Switched

Two mad bits of news I've spotted on the internet..

1. The Cookie Diet

Is about the latest crazy diet that Hollywood is getting in to... Now if you thought a fruitarian diet was mad, you might actually like this one because it's at almost the other end of the scale.. It's called the Cookie Diet and involves eating nothing but cookies and meat.. Totally ludicrous!, and an amazing example of the folly of humans when common sense is abandoned completely...

Anyhow, you can read more about it here:

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Story?id=125395&page=1

2. Grandfathers switched at Hospital

Is just so bizarre, it really defies belief.. you'll have to read this, and even then you'll be scratching your head in befuddlement.

I would never have thought this possible, but apparently 2 grandfathers were switched in a hospital, and it took the families 6 months before the mistake was realised!!

Here's the news:

Fruitarian Forums

I thought I'd blogged about this earlier, but apparantly I never did so..

Must have misplaced the post, as I'm sure I started to..

Anyhow, if you are in to a fruitarian, fruit only diet, and would like support and a community of others all aspiring or practising the same..

Then there are several forums and message boards you might visit:

Lena's Fruitarian Forum

The Fruitarian Nirvana Forum

The Frugivore Ning - In French

The I Heart Fruit forum

fruitarian thread in norwegian (can read, but must be registered to post)

Or alternatively, you might try: fruitarian.eu, another fruitarian forum run by my friend Rudolf in Spain..

In addition, you might like to check out the following fruitarian related threads in forums:

Sheffield (UK) Thread discussing Fruitarianism
A Fruitarian thread in A Vegan Forum
Fruitarian talks on an Animal Rights Forum

There is also Kveta's old fruitarian fruit revolution forum, which is still in existence although completely inactive, but still open to read at least (need to sign up first unfortunately).

I am sure there must be many many more too, if you know of any please post of them in the comments below..
thanks & regards,

Interview with a Fruitarian - 10 - Julian

10th in a series of interviews with Fruitarians.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions!
Could you please start off by telling us a little about yourself, how old you are, where you are living/grew up?

I'm 26 years old, grew up in Berlin, Germany and live at the moment in Nicaragua.

Do you have an online presence - website/ blog/pictures??

no

Julian in Nicuragua

Well, we met in Victoria, Australia in December 2006, right? And at that time you were on a raw vegan diet, how long had you been doing that?

about 7 months raw, 4 years vegan

When did you first hear of the fruitarian diet? Had you heard of fruitarianism before we met, or had you met any other fruitarians prior to our meeting?

Yes, I had heard about it but hadn't met any other fruitarians than you and still haven't.

Were you convinced that it was a good thing when you first heard of it, or did you have your doubts and disagree with it? When did you first realise that you wanted to live on just fruit?

When I first read about this diet (about the time when I went vegan) I considered it like most people not as a healthy diet you could live on for a longer time. When I first met you I was impressed by the ideology behind it but not about health aspects until I read more about it.

What was your diet like while growing up?

omnivour until I was 16.

Can you tell us a little about your health when you were eating that way, and how it has changed since moving toward an all fruit diet?

I didn't really feel changes after going vegetarian and vegan, a little after going raw, but the greatest improvement I had after going fruitarian.

What do your parents think of you going fruitarian? What about the rest of your family, borthers/sisters?

My parents are probably the only ones I could convince it's the best diet. The others are regarding it experimental and expect me to fail sooner or later.

What kind of things are you currently eating that you want to leave out from your diet and why?

Over/underripe and unorganic fruits..

Do you take any supplements or spirulina or stuff like that? Are you at all concerned about not getting enough calcium/protein/B12/whatevers??

No. No, I'm not.

Do you suffer from cravings, or have you ever binge eaten? how do you deal with such times?

My cooked food addiction is not totally gone yet but getting less and less. No, never have binge eaten.

What does your typical day look like foodwise? And for how long have you been eating this way?

It used to be breakfast Papaya, now that Mangos are coming in season more often Mangos, lunch tomatoes/cucumber/peppers, sometimes young coconut, dinner bananas. Since there is only a small variety of fruits I've been eating this way on most days for the last months.

Julian, you are currently living on Ometepe, a tropical island off of Nicaragua right? Do you have a good variety of fruit for you to choose from there? Good markets or local fruit orchards? Is there any fruit there that you had not seen before getting there?

As I said the locals don't care for fruits and the variety is quite small and quality often bad. Some foreigners introduced some new or better varieties. There are no markets only trucks that come once a week and sell fruits and vegetables. New fruits to me were Hocote, Jujube, Cashew Apple, Sapote and Breadfruit.

Apart from myself, have you ever met anyone else (not online) who eats just fruit?

No.

If you are not already there, how long do you picture it taking before you are at your goal of 100% fruit? Do you have set time frame plans for getting there? Are you already there??

100% is not my goal at the moment, I like young coconuts and would also eat fresh sweet corn.

Do you normally tell people how you eat? If so, what do you think is the most common question people ask you about your diet?

With most people I try to avoid this topic. The most common question is "Where do you get your protein from?"

Do you have a favourite fruit?

I had only once this kind of Sapote (I think it was) in Malaysia. My favourite of currently available fruits is jackfruit.

Can you recall the first time you tried one?

Yes.

Where and how do you see yourself living and eating in 10 years from now?

Living somewhere in the tropics, eating self-grown fruits.

Finally, how do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

Amused.

Thanks Julian,
I wish you success in finding a good place to be!
Mango.

Succeeding with fruitarianism

In my opinion, one key issue to succeeding on a fruitarian diet, is faith.

If we do not have complete faith that fruitarianism is a correct path to follow, if we have fears, uncertainties, and nagging doubts, then in all likelyhood, we will fail.

There is an enormous motion, a great tide, that moves against healthy living, and as well as all the excess our bodies may be carrying, the fat and toxins and water retension, we generally also have a lifetime of brainwashing to somehow get undone, and that should never be considered an easy task.

Building faith for the fruitarian diet, involves letting go of a tremendous amount of baggage and false knowledge that has been steadily indoctrinated and pounded into us.. So cleverly that we nolonger question it.. And that is just what we need to do.

That great leap in faith requires somehow taking a step backward, and truly seeing things as they are, and not as we are told they are.

We need to continuously be open minded and questioning...

- Is bread truly the staple of life?
- Do we really need to be eating protein to make protein?
- vitamins, minerals, trace elements etc?
- Is cooking food natural?

Try seeing things as they really are, and not as we have been lead to believe them to be.

Even if you have that faith, It is still all too easy to fall victim of the scaremongering tactics of the powers that otherwise be, and even to use those nagging fears as excuses to fail and binge.. This is not so much an issue, for as long as the faith remains present, the path should too.

Be aware, be awake, be present.

hugs, Mango

Fun Stuff - 1 - Find an Anagram of your name.

For some people, finding the anagram of names is rather like numerology or astrology is for others..

Just before I left the UK in November 2006, my good friend and fellow fruitarian, Jamshed, was telling me about how he put his name and fruitbat Anne's name through some anagram engine to find the anagram of both their names..

I don't recall what the results were, but do recall that they sounded pretty good. (I think Anne's was something about Lion bones? Anne?)

So I decided to find out what mine was..

An anagram of my birthname is:

Daze, or up and walk.. Which sounded pretty symbolic to me, as it's like I have the choice to either laze around and procrastinate, or up and do something.. - All too often I forget, and live in a daze instead of the active blur that would benefitme.. Let my anagram be an ever present constant reminder to me! Another anagram of my birth name (no prizes for guessing it!) is Poland daze, UK raw.. Which  is also somehow vaguely meaningful..

But nowadays I call myself Mango the Fruitarian, and an anagram of that?

I'm the fair Orangutan!

Pretty neet huh! ................ Other anagrams of it are:

2. Forget humanitarian
3. I'm a tough rare infant
4. A mutant inferior hag,

Want to find out the anagram of your name????

Here are some websites that can help you find fitting or funny anagrams to your names:

http://www.anagramgenius.com/server.html
http://freespace.virgin.net/martin.mamo/fanagram.html
http://www.easypeasy.com/anagrams/input.php?name=
http://www.anagramsite.com/

The anagram genius website seems to be the most intuitive and offers anagrams slightly more meaningful grammatically..

Try running your name through them and let us all know in a comment what the anagram of it is!

hugs,
I am a fine truth organ.

Interview with a Fruitarian - 9 - Sun~Rose

Another Interview with a Fruitarian - See also: Sun~Roses Blog, Sun~Roses Website & Sun~Roses Book

Sun~RoseHi Sun~Rose,

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions!
Could you please start off by telling us a little about yourself, how old you are, where you are living/grew up?

Sure. I’m a grandmother, and live in New York, on Long Island, in the same town in which I grew up. I feel better than I did at fifteen, or thirty. I run, swim, ice skate, rollerblade …

I believe you've recently published a book right? - Could you tell us a little about it?

Yes, a year ago December. It’s called: A RADIANT LIFE: Raw Food and the Presence of Love. While it is definitely a raw vegan food book, its emphasis is a bit different from most of the other books on being raw.

I’ve found that the most wonderful benefit of the experience is what it does for your mind, and of course, when your mind is peaceful and joyous, the body follows along like an obediet puppy on a leash. While I have been hearing Divine Guidance since I was a child – and the Guidance became much more frequent and steady once my daughter slipped into autism after infant vaccinations (and this is almost 40 years ago!), once He told me to begin fasting, and then, later, to become vegan, the Guidance lifted to a new place.

To be hearing this Voice for Love Guiding Us is a wonderful thing.

So what's your view on a 100% fruit diet?

From my own experience – as well as my Guide’s constant encouragement to do it – I think it is wonderful. The lighter we eat, the happier and clearer our minds become. With this frame of mind, I’ve found it is easier to ride whatever storms might come. Like Babe Ruth: to look at every ball as if it had ‘home run’ written on it.

How long have you known about fruitarianism, and how did you hear of it?

Oh gosh, maybe thirty-five years ago, reading Dick Gregory’s great book, and Viktoras’ Love Your Body and Survival into the 21st Century, and of coure, Arnold Ehret, and Morris Krok.

Do you know many (or any!) others eating just fruit?

No! - Only you all on this website, and Rejean Durette, whose book you have. Personally, no.

What has your diet been like while growing up?

Awful. Lots of meat, often three times a day. White bread. Meat and baked potatoes. At least no canned vegetables, but canned fruit. So much dairy. Always sick, and with a chronic, from childhood sinus condition. The best thing was fresh-squeezed orange juice whenever we were at a hotel on vacation.

Can you tell us a little about your health when you were eating that way, and how it has changed since moving toward an all fruit diet?

Always sick, and with a chronic, from childhood, sinus condition.

What do your parents think of you going fruitarian?

My dear parents are gone. My mother did become vegetarian to heal her arthritis. And in the decade from 80-90 she was never sick.

What about the rest of your family? partner/children?

When I had my in-a-moment switch to become vegan, my husband became vegetarian and the children vegan. My stepkids ate vegetarian whenever they were with us.

Also I cared for my mother-in-law after she had a massive heart attack and a stroke. I put her on a raw vegan diet. She wasn’t thrilled, but she got so much better, and developed a sense of humour!

My husband apparently went back to eating terribly with his third wife, and suffered massive heart problems in his fifties, dying at about 60.

Are you at all into supplements - Stuff like vitamin pills, spirulina or similar?

SunRose with her daughter Sarah.

From the moment of becoming vegan, I just stopped all vitamins, including the 4000 Units of vitamin C I was taking every day, just to be able to breathe through my nose. After the second day of being vegan, I noticed that I was breathing just fine, and had forgotten all about the vitamins.

About five years ago, after a long ordeal my daughter and I went through, I started to take some natural vitamin C powder occasionally. Lately I've made some by drying organic orange peels and grinding it up. We use it rarely, although it is a good chelator for metals.

So you are not at all concerned about not getting enough calcium/protein/B12/whatevers??

No! I’ve been vegan for 34 years, no dairy! I never worry about that stuff. Also from a dog bite, and then about 5 years later a freak accident, I had broken bones. The first time was ankle and foot bones, and I was back to work as a gardener in 3 days, although still in pain; two and a half weeks later I was rototilling up sod with no problem. Have you ever rototilled? It’s hard work, and I’m small. So it was a great healing, even the scars and little bumps on the bones where they healed are gone. No medical treatment at all. All prayer. I didn’t even wash the foot till the third day. No infection.

The second time I broke one side of my face: jaw, nose, cheekbone, eye socket, eye damage. The healing – also with no medical care at all – took a little longer because I had to overcome the fear of being disfigured. Everything healed beautifully though.

As far as B12, I don’t even think about it. There’s a chapter in our book sparked by other people’s concerns. I have a phenomenal memory.

Do you or have you suffered at all from cravings, or have you ever binge eaten?

Avocados were what I’ve always craved, until about two weeks ago. Never junk or meat or dairy, nothing like that. Oh, and seaweed: laver and wakame. And fresh spinach. I think the wakame craving is because it pulls heavy metals, and Sarah and I had a bad pesticide (heavy metals) exposure years ago, that sent her back into autism.

How do/did you deal with such times?

Either give in, or don’t! Depends.

Give us a brief run down of what you might eat on a typical day?

Lots of fresh orange juice. Avocados, tomatoes, seaweed, sometimes sprouts.

Whatever fruits are in season; lots of mangos in the summer, fresh dates in the fall. Salads. I’m starting an orange juice fast tonight.

And for how log have you been eating this way?

Lots of years.

Do you have a good variety of fruit for you to choose from where you live now?

Not like Australia or the tropics! We have some wonderful stores on Long Island though, with organic fruit.

Do you normally tell people how you eat?

Sure, all the time. And Sarah, my daughter, is constantly proselytizing, converting people!

What do you think is the most common question people ask you about your diet?

Well I used to hear the calcium question all the time. No longer though.

And then there’s the “Where do you get your protein?” I’ve always said that I don’t think protein, per se, is important at all, and that I almost never even eat vegan sources of it like nuts. So-called protein foods give me a stuffed nose!

Do you have a favourite fruit?

Durian! What else. And I love orange juice, tangelos, Haitian mangoes, sticky dates, figs, and up until a short fast of a week, a couple of weeks ago, I was addicted to Hass avocados Suddenly I don’t want them at all any more. ???

Can you recall the first time you tried a durian?

Oh yeah, the first durian. I can even give you the date: it was June 5, 2001, parked near the World Trade Center. My God-granddaughter was taking the Children’s Forum, and we picked one up on our way downtown through Chinatown. I couldn’t believe how I loved the smell and the taste!

Where and how do you see yourself living and eating in 10 years from now?
Pure fruitarian, or just juice. We’d really like to live someplace warm where we could grow fruit all year round.

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

I laugh and remind them that I’ve been doing this for 34 years – vegan, raw a lot of the time, a lot of fasting.  When people hear that I fasted for 400 days, that usually boggles them enough so that the comments stop.  And everyone notices my boundless energy and good humour and patience, despite a very trying life for the past 40 years!

Wow! 400 days..! That must have been some fast! Do you mind telling us a little more about that? When you say fast, do you mean a "fast" fast, with nothing at all, but water,or do you mean more of what is sometimes called a juice cure, or juice f(e)ast?

That one, juice!  Otherwise, I guess I'd be breatharian.

What made you do that?

Well, Sarah (My daughter) developed autism early on from vaccinations.  This was almost 40 years ago when We didn't know anything.  With a lot of Listening to Guidance and work, She got well.  At around 20, after a pesticide exposure, She went back into autism, especially after My mother -- Her grandmother with Whom She was very close -- died from it.

It was very difficult, and when I asked for Guidance on what to do, what I heard was (from the Bible): "This kind comes out only by prayer and fasting." -- and the direction to fast until She got better!  So I did.  And tremendous improvement came a year to the day that I had started.

Do you mean that just you alone were on the juice, or that Sarah was doing it with you?

Just I.  I made her enormous meals.  And fasting and prayer together make it very interesting.  When I had first begun to fast, years before, I had a minimum of three other family members for whom to prepare food.  On the weekends, that went up to seven or eight.  It was never a problem.  I'd just call one of the kids to taste things for me.  And I was never tempted.  The fast itself becomes such a beautiful experience.  And so it was with this one.  You might wonder how it helps another person?

This is how my Guide explained it to me. When one is fasting, there is a lightness that comes; first the body, then the mind, with many experiences of illumination.  For those for whom the fast is offered, the experience is like someone resolutely wanting to stay asleep in darkness.  They resist sound, often bringing the noise into their dream, and staying asleep.  Then someone comes and pulls back the drapes, and the light pours in.  They start to stir!

Can you tell us what kind of things you were juicing, and how often you were drinking juices?

During the season of summer, usually honeydew melon juice.  When they were out of season, the base was usually a carrot-orange juice mix with other vegetables, and always hot pepper and garlic. Usually about 50 lbs of carrots a week.  Although the little fruit market close didn't have organic carrots (which I would always use now), it was the only store close enough, and they'd give me great deals, sometimes as little a $5 for 50 lbs!  It was quite delicious.  During this fasting time -- and later fasting on this juice -- I was caring for the small children of Friends.  They always had Their little faces in My juice wanting it!  The oldest, Charis, is 19 now, and She asked Me recently for the recipe.  And she's become vegan.  I'd just like to add that these kids ate mostly fruit and seaweed, and raw corn salad and were so conscious!  At 2 1/2 Charis could read about 60 words and write and spell 12 words by 3.  Two of Them, independently, when each was about 4, about 3 years apart, when They first heard the song "It's in Everyone of Us" said "What's that song?"  Grabbed the tape player, and played the song over and over again.  If You look up the words, You'll see why I found this so interesting.  On this kind of diet, the children -- Who didn't watch tv at Our home, as We don't have one -- were on this wonderful ... wavelength, for lack of another word to describe it.

What changes did you notice after the year past?

A major healing for Sarah.  It was wonderful.

At that point, I was actually quite hungry -- had been for a few months -- and so was Listening for Direction again, and about a month later heard to stop for now, and I would be directed.  So I did.

Why exactly 400 days?

It was years later that it occurred to Me to wonder how many days, so I counted them, and it was 400.

There's so much I could say about this fast, and the incredible Peace and Grace I experienced, despite the extreme difficulty of the situation.

You mentioned also, that 6 weeks after that 400 days, you started on juices again for 6 days a week, can you tell us how and why you chose to do that, and how long you continued that for?

Shortly after I'd stopped -- and was waiting for direction, this green sheet of paper called Realities came in the mail.  They were facts from John Robbins book: Diet for a New American.  One of the facts was that 40,000 Children a day were starving to death.  I remember just sitting there, stunned -- and getting the strong feeling from My Guide that I could "not go on 'business as usual' " after reading that.

I asked what I should do, and He told Me to think about what the cause of famine was/is, and to ask Others.  So I did, and all the answers: greed, money, economy etc. all came down to one thing: selfishness.  So then He told Me: Be the Correction by being unselfish.  When I asked how?  He suggested that I fast 6 days a week, so as to not get as hungry, and to invite others to give up a favorite thing as an ongoing act of unselfishness.  So I did.  I fasted like that for 2 1/2 years, then spent a year eating just fruit, another one only eating one salad in the evening; 14 months on an extended Ramadan fast.  I had begun some years before -- again from My Guide -- as a prayer for Peace in the Middle East -- to fast for Ramadan.

Then We had some very major stress and I stopped the constant fasting (not for health reasons at all).  And My Guide constantly encourages Me to go back to it.

In case I haven't explained the Principle clearly enough, let Me Listen.  In a world where ego and selfishness reign, the very act of unselfishness begins to leaven the density of the 'me' mentality.  New possibilities occur to consciousness.  Just as kindness also permeates the darkness.  Minds are opened.

Finally, is there anything you'd like to add as words of encouragement to those that are aspiring toward fruitarianism?

Go for it! When we allow our minds to shift, and change, then it becomes easy. There’s also a game I like to suggest that helps with cravings too, and that’s called redoing the past. That’s in the book too. Just rewrite the past. Who needs an unhealthy – or an unhappy – childhood!

It’s really fun. And in the rewriting, let your new wonderful parents raise you as vegan or fruitarian. This way, when you’re upset, or stressed, you reach for an apple because you were always rewarded with an apple for good things.

A new past is a thing of beauty. And quantum physics tell us that ‘time’ can go in any direction. I once had a wonderful experience of that understanding that brought back a friend’s missing wedding ring: the idea that if you change your mind in the present, the past has to shift to accommodate the new present. Her ring had been lost15 months previously, 200 miles away. It was returned to her right in Port Washington within 4 days.
It’s really all in the use to which we put our minds.

And a hug to You Mango for the wonderful websites, and for being Who You Are!

Thanks Sun~Rose!
hug,
Mango.

My Fruitarian Book

..Well, after many years of basically procrastinating with my fruitarian book, and continuosly putting it on hold, I have finally begun being methodical and writing a little each day..

It's been 2 weeks already, and after having first read through it once more, and deleting a good 20 pages of it that I wasn't quite happy with, I am now totalling about 80..

I'm feeling quite enthusiastic about it, and very happy to see it growing as it is.

What I want to ask you guys is, does anyone know of a publisher address / email of someone that may be able to offer assistance with getting it published once it is ready?

It's to be a book about 100% fruit pure fruitarianism, and the path of an ethical fruitarian.. But mostly I guess it'll be about me, and my journey so far.

So, preferably some publisher that would be in to a raw vegan fruitarian book, or tips on how to self publish (though I'd prefer to have it done professionally).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! - Please post a comment below,  or send me an email..

thanks everyone!
