Vision of Eden

It is my firm conviction, that the principle focus behind fruitarianism should be the understanding of the uniqueness of fruit as a food choice. Unlike all other foods, fruit is the one true food that karmically speaking is clearly "given" freely. Fruit is the only food which ultimately has the potential to be truly compatible with the immortal words of "the Beatles", love is all you need. All other foods require the death or partial destruction and injury toward a life form. Whether it be through the cold hard steel of a knife blade to a pig's throat, the imprisonment and suffering of animals kept for no other purpose than human gluttony, the untimely assassination of wild free roaming animals, the constant ploughing of fields for mono cereal crops destroying the lives and habitats of countless small wildlife. Even the consumption of seeds and nuts often prevents the seed from any chance of germination and a life of it's own, and the uprooting of carrots, lettuce and similar either completely terminate the life of a plant, or destroy a good part of it. All these actions incur karmic debt, which, whether we like it or not, are aware of it or not, will be paid off in kind.

It is unrealistic to think that fruitarianism proposes an immediate total eradication of such needless harm and death, but I do see it as a method to greatly minimize such, and over time as the consciousness of humankind expands toward its spiritual potential, I do not believe that such a goal is at all unrealistic.

My vision is to see the whole world embrace this concept. I believe that once humankind has inevitably done so, other species (YES!) will naturally follow suit.. So instead of looking up to other species as examples as to how we should eat and live (Sadly most often the case today), other species will be guided and influenced by us, and ultimately the chaotic bloody balance of nature as it currently exists, will evolve into a harmonious peaceful balance where all species will be able to live their lives without fear of this insane dog eat dog, kill or be killed competitive ruthless insanity..  survival of the fittest will be replaced by mutual respect and cooperation. I by no means propose to have all the answers, far from it, but I do trust that there are no problems without solutions and that as we continue to evolve, the path will become ever clearer. Ultimately fruitarianism proposes a "Live and let live" solution.

What I don't believe should be part of fruitarianism, is calorie counting, focusing on carbohydrates, electrolytes, minerals, vitamins etc etc.. I think these factors ultimately stem from "FEAR", and a clear lack of trust and faith in fruit. Most people are truly hoodwinked into following this pseudoscience side of eating, and although they themselves have no real idea what proteins or calories really are, they still wield the terms as if they were personally very familiar with them. Lying to themselves and others in doing so.

Fruitarianism is about letting go of such fears, trusting in the goodness of fruit, living as simply as one can, having faith, (there's always room for improvement!) eating when hungry, drinking when thirsty, resting and sleeping when tired. It is not about following fashion based on greed and consumerism, but about walking barefoot to regain contact with the earth, being naked, weather permitting, whenever one can do so without victimization, letting ones hair and beard, when applicable, grow naturally, not defacing ones body with tattoos, piercing, make up and chemical cleaners, certainly not undergoing pointless surgery. Rather it concerns the understanding that the medical industry is a multi billion dollar business that ultimately does NOT have our best interests at heart. Understanding that the body will heal itself from pretty much anything if we follow the rules of simplicity and fruit eating.

I believe it is also about getting closer to nature, about getting our hands covered in soil as we plant and care for new fruit trees. Not competitiveness, not Alpha-male centred and dominated society, but mutual support and understanding of one another, and using our energy toward the ultimate vision of Eden and personal spiritual growth.

Fruit has not only the ability to cleanse us both internally physically and mentally, but also applied externally is great for washing our bodies, as well as making us more spiritually aware.

As always, I feel I have barely scratched the surface, and the final peace and tranquillity that will reign will be beyond all our expectations.

peace,
mango.

International Fruit Day!

It's here again! Today marks the celebration of the 5th International Fruit day, held each year on July 1st.

Get real! Eat fruit!

This year the day of fruits stands in the sign of the mango which is the chosen fruit for 2011.

Mango, Mango, Olé!

To celebrate, all you have to do is just eat fruit for the day, share a fruit meal with friends, surprise family members with a big fruit salad, buy a fruit you've never eaten before, give a fruit you've eaten before and didn't enjoy, another chance.. the options are endless, but all focus around bringing more awareness of the goodness and life giving qualities of a fruit entered lifestyle.

For us, it'll be just like every other day. Filled with fruit meals and fruit thoughts. Plus of course other activities.

Mango Fruit of 2011

We lead a very simple lifestyle really, most days we start the day with a freshly squeezed fruit juice, maybe do a spot of gardening, burying compost (all our fruit sraps get buried in the garden, and produce the most nutritious soil when biodegraded, - the proof being the little fruit we are able to grow being of above average sweetness.), weeding, pruning off dead leaves, etc.

Maybe a swim in the local river, or a visit to friends out at fruitopia..

I'm also currently spending a fair bit of my time studying the Czech language. I'm using a website called MEMRISE.COM, to aid learning, it's a great website that enables one to learn pretty much any language through the use of mnemonics.. SO far though, it's really only me working on the Czech language side, and I've added about 600 or so words there.. The websites free, and still in Beta, and I'm told to expect big changes. Language learning is fun, this'll be my 6th or so I've learned, but I guess one never stops learning a foreign language..

Meanwhile, through it all, way wait, practicing impatience, yearning for the Divine to provide us with a house on a plot of land, with privacy, seclusion, good soil, and water, to live out the rest of our days on.. So far, the issue is really about lack of money for such an investment, and lack of available places that are up for long term leases.. Never-the-less, we are confident that such a place will eventually be manifested for us, and in this area too, which has a near abouts perfect all year round climate.

Anyhow, happy international fruit day to you all,
mango.

What are the best fruits to eat?

Another recent question I've received, this time from a reader, Anna, in California, who asks:

I'm a vegetarian turned fruitarian (thanks to your website). Can you please help me out with a starter grocery list? I live in California, so tropical fruit's aren't abundant here. I love almost all fruits, but are there any in particular you would recommend/are against? Any other advice would also be appreciated.

Good question, and one that I've sort of tackled before in bits and pieces, so I'll try and group those thoughts together here.

OK.. I ultimately sincerely believe that the whole idea of someone else advising another of the best foods to eat, what to eat, when to eat, amounts to eat etc, is folly. It is an erroneous path to expect another to know better than ourselves what appeals most at any given point in time.

Unfortunately it seems it is the path that many seek. The need for guidance is understandable, but guidance beyond the simple basic understanding of what constitutes true food, is generally false. Sure there are many people that try to sell such flawed knowledge, pretending that only they know what is best for you. What I teach is different. The lesson I try to give (away) is that beyond the understanding that fruit is the highest of all food, the only food with the potential of being given completely karmically free, and the purist most life giving and nourishing solid food sustenance found on the face of the Earth, beyond this simple knowledge, that which the body will most benefit from eating at any given time, not allowing invalid food choices to enter the arena (ie no condiments, cooking, dehydrating or over processing of ones fruits etc.), is purely unknown to anyone but the person asking. What folly it would be for me, or anyone, to try tell someone they should eat nectarines in abundance when they are in season.

You should eat what appeals to you at every given meal. So don't think, oh, someone is eating 20 bananas daily, and fairing very well on them, that you should do the same. Every meal is different. Every meal your body will tell you what appeals most. Use your nose and senses to judge what fruit will best suit your needs at any given point in time. Learn to trust your instincts again. Don't follow a recipe book. Don't fall into the trap of believing you need some complex mathematical formula to obtain the correct ratio of carbohydrates to fat and protein. Don't fall into the trap of over complicating your food through complex recipes. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that someone else knows better than you do, what to eat right now. Nobody does. I go through months without eating any bananas. This is because when I try to eat them, I might have a few mouthfuls, and then the taste changes, and they are no longer appealing. But for me to advice you not to eat them would be ludicrous. They are a good food, when they appeal. At the moment, I am going through a phase where I get through maybe 5 or 6 a day, which is more than I've ever eaten of them in my life. Avocados which generally appeal to me, I am not finding so attractive. But desires continuously fluctuate depending on momentary physiological needs.

Don't fall into the trap of classifying certain fruits as sugars, and others as fats. Don't believe you need to count calories. All these are traps, and part of a ploy to scare you into believing you need to pay for mentoring. Don't believe any of that superfood nonsense of expensive pills, potions and powders. There are no such things outside of pure ripe fresh ready to eat fruit.

The truth is simple. Don't fall into the trap of believing you need to drink X amounts of litres of water daily. Force feeding yourself, or force drinking to fit into some preconceived pattern is folly.

At least, these are what I believe to be traps and conclusions reached through false logic. I'm aware that my voice is in the minority, and that there are large movements that promote ways of thinking grossly in opposition to mine.

So I say, eat when hungry, look at your fruit, which type appeals most right now? Eat that. Stop when no longer hungry. If hunger resurfaces once more in 20 minutes, then choose again. Don't restrict yourself to meals. 3 meals a day is probably a good pattern for omnivorous humans, but for fruit eaters, eat when hungry, not when the clock tells you too. Likewise for drinking. If you sincerely eat just fruit, the need for water will diminish and likely vanish altogether unless much physically strenuous work is required.

At the end of the day, it is up to us all individually to decide what is and what is not correct, and although I state my points with conviction and sincerity, you should always be aware that I'm just a bod with an opinion. What's yours?

PS If nectarines are in season (or not), and they appeal, go for it!

Mushrooms on a Fruitarian Diet.

Another question I received in my inbox a short while ago, from a guy named Bernard in Stavanger (Norway), pertained to the eating of mushrooms on a fruitarian diet:

Is eating mushroom ok for fruitarians?

He then clarified that he wasn't referring to blue meanies, gold tops or other psychedelic mind altering trippy mushrooms..

Well, firstly, I think I'm going to apologize in advance for once more being repetitive, because I know that much of what I'm going to write I've already said before, albeit no doubt slightly different word orders.. But anyhow, here goes..

Firstly, I wish to reiterate that I am fully aware that the term fruitarian pertaining to fruitarianism, is habitually loosely interpreted by many, and much as I'd love to see it mean eater of solely fruit, colloquially this is clearly very much not the case. And even when my definition is agreed upon, there exists much confusion as to what exactly a fruit is. So I would like to refer you to my previous blog posts, My definition of Fruitarianism, and What is a fruit?.

So bearing in mind that I'm defining fruitarianism as a lifestyle that revolves around eating purely fruit, then the simple yes/no answer to the question of whether or not mushrooms are part of a fruitarian diet, is no, they are clearly not fruits..

However, all things said and done, I tend to have my own little vision of what qualifies as food.. sort of my own internal "food pyramid", similar to the traditional food pyramid, knocked together by the meat and dairy industry as part of their ingenious flesh marketing strategy, mine is also a simple pyramid with layers..

My pyramid supposes that all this food be eaten in a 100% raw natural state. Once the cooking process is added as an ingredient, the pyramid I propose would become much more complicated, and require additional layering with a great deal more potential for overlap.

Fruitarian Food Pyramid concept:

The bottom layer contains the edible(?) flesh portions of animals, every mammal, fowl and fish you can name etc. Slightly above it, with some overlap, I'd stick the bi-products of the animal flesh trade, and other items that originate from deliberate animal abuse, dairy products, milk, cheese, yogurts etc, eggs, lards and oils of animal sources etc, the overlap is diffuse, and not altogether clear. The next layer up, are the root vegetables, the carrots, parsnips and turnips etc.. things that necessitate the direct and unavoidable intentional killing of plants. Above that, I would have another layer, again with a slight overlap perhaps, depending on production methods, with tubers, like potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, and Jerusalem artichokes, things which on a small scale can potentially be harvested gently from the ground with minimal harm to the plant, and if care taken the food can be eaten, and eyes cut out from the potato or similar to regrow new plants. Moving up the triangle one more notch, once more with a potential for overlap, I would place nuts, seeds and grains.. Grains and seeds being potentially far more destructive, so perhaps I might place them further down the pyramid. Truth be known, my pyramid is far from finalized.. Anyhow, above the nuts and stuff, I'd place greens, again, there is definitely room for overlap, as method of growing and harvesting surely plays a role, as with small scale home gardening, many greens can be harvested in a far less destructive manner than traditional farming methods allow. Above the greens, again overlapping, I would place mushrooms, especially self picked forest & field ones. and then right at the top, is the fruit.

me and my friend in the garden 2 days ago
Clearly I've missed out some of what gets eaten, like crustaceans, snails, frogs, insects, grubs and the like, which I'd probably place in that vague area between layers 1 and 2 and 3, then there's seaweed, algae I don't know, probably more that I've forgotten, legumes, and the seeds I would differentiate as to whether sprouted or not, but I think you get the rough gist of things..

Unlike the traditional food pyramid, the aim is not to eat balanced from all food groups, but to aspire instead to the pinnacle of foods, and just eat fruit. Obviously, if there is no fruit around, and one must eat other things, then move down the pyramid as far as you feel comfortable. In the grand scheme of things, mushrooms are most definitely not the worst choice. Of course, the ultimate goal is to settle in an environment where the food you are comfortable with is readily and affordably available.

Knowing what our goals are is a matter of individual choice, attempting to keep sight of them, is crucial to attaining them.

100% Fruitarian. Fruit Only..

I have just heard on the grape vine that Harley is once more keenly telling the world that I am not 100% fruitarian, and that nobody is.. In fact, I tracked his recent statement down on the 30bananas forum..

Mango is a mate and he aint 100% fruitarian. Nobody is. Nobody has to be either.

Do I know mango would do better on more sweet fruits, drinking water and less fat? Heck yeah. Have I told the mangoster? Heck yeah.

Do the experiment Fred. Do one month mono banana and one month mono avocado and then one month 50/50 and PROVE it to yourself what you want in your diet more or less. :)

fruit in our kitchen
Food in our kitchen

Although I'm not a member or frequent visitor myself, there's surely a lot of good stuff being taught on that forum, and I have little doubt of that, and a lot of people are benefiting from it.. I would answer him directly on the forum, but if I were to join, (if they were to let me join!), I would probably be quickly banned, as I am not a follower of 801010, or of any of the pseudoscience behind eating raw, and would not be shy in stating my opinion..

Of course, I understand why he and other moderators regularly censor and ban opposing views there, especially bearing in mind that among other things, their's is a business with a clear intention of making a profit on the lack of knowledge of others.. No point in making anyone question their proposed knowledge.

Actually, I consider the banning somewhat humorous, especially as Harley himself goes and states his opinion on other forums that have the same "stick to our beliefs" policy.. What was that forum that banned you that I helped you re-register with Harley?

What I don't quite fully get though, is why Harley insists on stating that nobody does 100% fruit.. (I've written my own views on this previously here:

just fruit, no nuts, seed, roots or greens..

I guess one could equally say that Harley is not 100% raw as he takes B12 shots..

me with a bag full of freshly picked passionfruit
Me and a bag full of passion fruit - freshly harvested.

Whatever, but I'd like to address his points individually:

Mango is a mate and he aint 100% fruitarian.

Actually Harley since I broke off that last leaf of sweet-leaf I shared with Nick in December, I have not eaten anything but fruit.. Prior to that, since joining up with Kveta in 2006, meals with anything but fruit were virtually nonexistent.. Yes, I ate some home grown peas and beans in 2008, yes, I drank some of the juice of one coconut on my way between Sydney and our new home, yes I may have broken off a leaf or 2 and chewed on it.. But these were never really meals as such.. More like the old piece of straw the farmers chew on.. Exceptions were few and far between..

Prior to 2006 though, exceptions were more frequent.. I am busy writing my book where all will be revealed..

Nobody is. Nobody has to be either.

You cannot possibly know, that nobody is, but you are surely right that nobody has to be.. I'd never disagree with that one.. Nobody has to be vegetarian, nobody has to be vegan, nobody has to be raw, nobody has to be eating in any particular fixed way. My belief has for a long time been that fruit is a superior food, and as such, I have striven toward the goal of 100% fruit fruitarianism..

Are you trying to say that 100% fruit is ultimately not doable or not ideal, or could it perhaps be that you are a little envious that percentagely someone might eat more fruit than you do?? :) If you think it doable, then why try and discredit those that claim to do it? If you think it doable, and ultimately superior, then why aren't you eating 100% fruit yourself? I guess I don't fully understand your stance on this matter.. (actually, a recent question FreeLee posed concerning 100% fruit left me similarly confused)

Do I know mango would do better on more sweet fruits, drinking water and less fat? Heck yeah. Have I told the mangoster? Heck yeah.

Not knowledge Harley.. belief.. there is a difference.. I am claiming no real knowledge myself.. just belief.. whether or not others share my, or your, or someone elses beliefs is a personal individual choice.. I personally see it as folly to force drink when one is not thirsty, and equally so to eat when no real hunger is present.. I don't eat fat. I eat avocados.. you can stick with your pervert fats and sugar, I prefer to eat my fruit pure and unadulterated by science :) - If you eat 100% fruit, and live the kind of at ease lifestyle I do, then thirst is rarely if ever present, and when it is, an orange or 2 easily quench that thirst, so why would I even want to drink water? That's not to say that if you put in the exercise you do, that water might not serve it's purpose, just that our lives are currently quite different, and should I ever really feel desire for water, I would surely naturally drink it too..

locally grown organic tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicum and zucchini
Locally grown organic produce

Do one month mono banana and one month mono avocado and then one month 50/50 and PROVE it to yourself what you want in your diet more or less. :)

This is rather a ridiculous experiment.. I could personally not go a day eating just bananas or avocados.. both would sicken me.. Now perhaps a day, or month on just a particular juicy sweet fruit, or durian, I could handle.. but this all proves nothing.. just because I might desire to eat one fruit less than others, doesn't mean it is inferior, or should be restricted if and when the desire is there for it.. Compare this to me telling you you should try to eat just greens for a month, then just fruit, then 50/50.. this would not tell you anything you don't already know..

peace,
Mango.

Interview with a Fruitarian - 34 - Tord Lyseving

34th in my series of interviews with fruit fruitarian fruit eaters

Hi Tord

OK, Could you please start off by introducing yourself? Just tell us who you are, where your from, where you're living now, your age, family situation, or anything else you think will give us a quick insight into who you are..

Once (I think it was in 1983/84) I was sitting in some meditation with closed eyes and saw 12 of my earlier lives. It came like tidal water waves, first one very clear picture, then one more and ….in some kind of historical time succession. I will only mention a few here. This experience was very strong and hit my mind with obvious consequences. It started in Africa where I was a medicine man treating a sick woman in my place, a little aside the village. I prepared a natural medicine with red berries in a wood vessel, I stirred and smashed the berries to a paste for her to eat and I also smeared this outside her body. Several people standing in a circle was expecting a healing miracle as before. I had a high position in this African village. Later in 1990 my former wife flew me to Africa, Gambia, where I stayed for a while and met many people, even an old medicine man in the bush who liked me to stay at his home to teach him my skills in natural medicine. I was honored to hear that and it was some kind of confirmation of my earlier life experiences.

Another strong "historical tidal water wave" hitting my mind was among Maya or Inca people in Mexico or Guatemala. I saw a colourful dressed man with a lot of power and also cruelty. Still I can paint this colourful man with a huge feather headgear on his head. In this life I have also visited Guatemala and came close to the old temples especially the Chichen itza temple was a great "deja vue", or recognition.

A third earlier life was in America, Canada, as an Indian chief. A funny thing is that even other friends in my surroundings expressed my connection to American indians as a famous indian chief. In 1960, in this life, I visited a place in Canada and at that time I was dancing with real indians in a camp, reserve. I was dancing with my history. In Russia I was, at different times a young and a famous piano player and very close to the Tsar Peter the great, helping to build warships. In this life I have also been in Russia twice, some kind of repetition to understand my own history!?

My last earlier life experience was as a war pilot in England during the second world war. I was a wing chief but quit, landing in the Netherlands on a farm and married a beautiful girl, the daughter of the farmer. In this life I have been (in a small scale) involved in aerobatic and gliding flight. Also some kind of recognition.

That was some of my background and of course I have also been poor, slave, put in prison and other life experiences but these 12 incarnations were so strong and clear like a branded pattern in my brow. I have also been involved in many battles....

In the present "Gregorian" time I was born in 1943 in the city of Luleå, in the very north of Sweden. I was a very active, sporty and talented boy and I never used any kind of drugs, cigarettes and just small amounts of alcohol. I was often put as a group captain in the school and the teacher often chose me to demonstrate things. Helping people has been an obvious "karma" to me. Probably because of my earlier life of cruelty and sacrificing other people. As a health, natural doctor I still have this task to help and inspire people to a better health and life. I have also been a so called coach for some top sportsmen and musicians in Sweden who got successful outcome.

When I was young I was very interested in art and I started painting very early and my drawings were often on the wall in my school to demonstrate how a good drawing should look like. Crazy thinking! Today, all the students paintings are on the wall.

I was studying at KTH (Technical collage) in Stockholm and as a researcher. I was also connected to FOA M (Swedish National Defence and M stands for section for material research, my speciality was plastic and rubber). I followed the studies for a doctor's degree for about two years at my institution of Polymer technology. I wrote several reports about my work and one international research article in Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1973. At that time I was very proud to get this work accepted by the experts in the editorial board in USA. After that I was called "Dr. Tord Åredal" (my name at that time). This title, Dr., came on letters from all over the world and from the editorial board of the magazine. So I am not a real traditional technical doctor because I never got through the traditional trial with opponents.

I did not make any career in the common industry, just jumped on a new trail and bought two health food shop, where I could start my new life. I had all my patients in my shop and my loving mother (who became 92 years) often helped me with the customers.

I have three children (boy-40, girl-38 and girl-15 Gregorian years). My last wife was a flight captain and we travelled around the world with the hope to settle down in a place with a good climate and a lot of cheap and tasty fruit. We tried to settle down in Tenerife, La Palma or Brazil. We were anyhow and in some loving way taken back, by our spiritual friends, to Stockholm in 2006. Now I live with my girlfriend Lisa, look at the enclosed picture. We are helping Lisa’s parents to build at their farm and also in some extent in their business. My son is just going to start a new building company and I also help him in some matter. Lisa and I have, at the time, contact with people interested in the fruitarian lifestyle. Some young school people, mostly girls, like to make interviews with me and write project works about the fruitarian life and health in common. I am happy to see this interest especially from young people. The spiritual world sends old souls in young bodies to make the world more fruitful.

My website is: www.lyseving.com This site has not been updated for several years but my intention is to make a better one soon.

My best career of all was when I became fruitarian 1984/85 in Sweden. It has been my most exciting journey so far and I am expecting more interesting research and new discoveries in the future.

Congratulations to your nice website, Mango! Perhaps my site can be as good as yours?

I'm aware that in comparison to other Scandinavian countries, Sweden is more switched on in many ways regarding diet, especially with the work that Lily Johansson and Alf Spångberg did.. Were they at all influential in you becoming fruitarian?

In 1984, I was at that time fruitarian with nuts and some seeds, I was responsible for a health home in Norway for a time where we had a mixture of Raw Food diet and Lilly Johansson’s vegan diet. This health home was at the time close to a bankruptcy. They called for me and the business became successful. We were also in the Norwegian television and after that the ”flow” of people came to the place.

I visited Lily Johansson once with my mother to cure her gallbladder stones. She got out all stones, with help of olive oil cure and lemon juice and vegan food, and never after that any problem. I talked with Lilly and she said that she should like to eat more fruit and even to become a fruitarian but she could not because of her reumatic problems. She got pain when eating some kinds of fruit.

I tried to explain why and something about fruits ability to solve this but not with much success. Lilly died in 1999, age 79. Alf Spångberg was born in 1924 and I believe that he is still alive. I was already fruitarian when Alf Spångberg became a little known in Sweden.

I became a fruitarian because my spiritual guides helped me with this career. A common reaction when I became a fruitarian was that most of the people, including ”esoteric alternative", medial or not, looked at me to be very extreme. Even some medial friends thought I would die of malnutrition eating only fruits………????

So I'm guessing that growing up there, you would have been eating a more standard diet of the time and location? Can you tell us a little about how that was?

When I was young I loved fruit. When my father came home with a full box of oranges I could easily eat 7 to 8 of them directly. I also mention some of this behaviour in the book you got ”My Path to Freedom”. I could also eat lemons 4 to 5 at the same time without any problems. I loved tomatoes when I was young and some of my friends and I visited some tomato land where we could grab it. I was really born as a fruitarian child but my parents had no understanding of that. I was eating the food my mother served and not until the late 1970´s I became a vegetarian. In the beginning of the 1980’s my family lived on only raw food so called living food. My first wife and I went to Hippocrates institute in Boston to learn their program with sprouts and wheat grass and………..My wife got much better after that. We, my family and I, lived in that way for 2,5 years.

After my revelation (also in my book) in a state of meditation, 1983/84, I became a true fruitarian. During my transition I have of course, a few times, got some temptations sometimes for bread, potatoes, fish (salmon) and even a few times meat. The few times I tested the common food I got very bad reactions. I like to call it cleansing reaction. Once, 1993, I tested a chicken, potatoes and bread. The reaction after that was just a loving experience. I got a lot of mucus from my nose and my right foot went to sleep or became paralyzed so I could not lift it for one week. I had to drag my foot and I also got pain in my right leg and tremblings in some muscles.

As soon as I was eating common food, just a few times and only one meal for test, and also vegetarian cooked food I got directly a lot of mucus from my nose and a creeping feeling in my legs and of course I had a heavy, unpleasant feeling in my head. It was obvious how the food effected my brain. This ”food regression” can be seen as a part of my experiments and to give me better understanding of my body reactions. A god part of my private research work.

Do you know that Shakespeare’s (Hamlet..) once expressed ”I am a heavy meat eater and I am aware that this will harm my wit”. Still he is well known and famous. Do you know what Shakespeare’s mean? It stands for shaking pears, so perhaps he was a potential fruitarian……???

What was your health like growing up? And your weight?

I was a healthy boy with just a few colds. I was in motion all the time with different sports, dancing, cycling, boxing, swimming, running, jumping, table tennis, football, ice hockey, bandy, tennis………

How does your health then, compare to your health now? Do you feel your age?

My age is today 66 and I never before felt better. I am together with a 35 year old girlfriend and I don´t feel much older then she, physically. Her father, a nice and creative man, who is my ”father-in-law” is one year younger than me and my ”mother in law”, also creative and nice business woman, is one year older than me!

Tord and Lisa

When was the last time you felt at all unwell?

Thirty years back in time. It is a question of definition but no diseases during my time as a fruitarian. When I was on the raw food diet I could get some cleansing reactions which are both good signs and normal. I will, as long as I live, never get any kind of disease. I have decided that, and will live the rest of my life without any kind of so called disease. The people who read my book carefully will understand my point.

What does a normal days food supply look like for you? Do you eat fixed meals at fixed times of the day?

The time doesn´t direct my eating. My wish is that the Gregorian time will not exist after 2012. I only eat when I am hungry. Some days I don´t eat at all, I am only drinking some small amount of lemon water. My intention in the near future is to minimize the food and to be independent of food. Lisa and I have the same goal. Many days I make a mixture in a blender of a few bananas, avocados, blueberries and a little soaked dried fruit. (mango, dates and pineapple). I mix this with juice from two hand squeezed grapefruits. Nowadays I take some berries, strawberry, blackberry, cloudberry, raspberry or some berries I have due to the season. I put it on the surface of the mix and sometimes with a little shredded coconut. Sometimes even carob. This mixture can last for two days.

I know you wonder about Durian fruits in Sweden. Once I went to Indonesia and Sumatra with my former wife and 8 year old daughter (at that time). We where eating Durian every day and the cost for one Durian was less than half a dollar. We usually carried a sack full of Durian. For me Durian is a favourite fruit like Jackfruit which I was eating a lot of during my visit in Australia. It is possible to get Durian in Sweden but the taste is mostly not good and the price for one Durian is around 40/50 dollars.

I gather you've written several books on fruitarianism, mostly in Swedish, but also one in English, when did you write the first one?

The first book was a Living-Food-book i.e a raw food book in 1983. I printed it myself and sold every book I made, around 600 copies. My first fruit book was written in 1986, ”Maten Din Medicin-fruktstadiet (The Food Your Medicin-the fruit stage)”. Still this book is selling and I have sold around 1000 copies so far.

Where can someone order them from?

In some health food stores, bookshops and from me directly. People can also get them from a library in Stockholm.

You mentioned that the 2nd of July was declared as World Fruit day in Sweden, I really meant to blog about it, but the day slipped past and I plain forgot.. How did you go about declaring the day, and what kind of response did you get?

There were at least 120 people who participated in this first World Fruit Day in Sweden. You participate by eating only fruit that day and many people liked this idea and manifestation, so for Lisa and me it was a good start. We will of course declare the World Fruit Day even next year, same date. Maybe we will organize some public event that day, we will see.

How many fruitarians do you know, how many do you think there are in Sweden, and why do you think there are so few fruitarians?

I think there have been 2-300 trying to become fruitarians. Some for short times, some for a few years with fantastic experiences. Many of these people fall back because of social conditions. They can’t stand the social pressure.

Of course all temptations, old dependence and cravings of the common food play a roll. Many try for short times but slip back.

Can you tell us a little about your transition to fruitarianism, was it overnight, or more of a gradual thing?

As I said before, I was meant to be fruitarian already when I was born. All kind of food in the childhood and when growing up I like to look at as a regression of food energy and to fit into the social world. I created my own reality which was just given with love and meaning. In my books, even the last one ”My Path to Freedom” I mention 6 different stages which can be a help for people trying to become a fruitarian. All people are not meant to be it. My own transition was from vegetarian over to raw food and then a quantum leap over to the fruit stage. The spiritual guides helped me to take this leap.

What did your family and friends make of your revelations?

Just to be a vegetarian, in the end of the 1970s, made reactions and to be so called fruitarian was a very radical and frightening thing for most of the people in my surroundings. My way was starked out so I just followed that path without any regard to my family or friends.

Has anyone else in your family made such changes??

No one.

What kind of foods did you find most difficult to leave behind?

In fact, it has not been any difficulties to leave the old food for only fruits because of my love for fruits already in early years. When I became a fruit eater I was thinking, “at last I can eat and live on only desserts! What a wonderful world……”.(Louis Armstrong).

As I mentioned before I had sometimes longings for bread, potatoes, salmon….. My private research with my body as a laboratory gave me a lot of understanding of cause and effect from the food I took. This was a loving experience. When we make a food transition we have to be aware of that it is a kind of regression i.e. when we are cleansing the body cells the cell memory will act as finding archeological finds and sometimes these finds will take you back in the history even with your body.

I used to say that to become a fruitarian is equal to become an esoteric archeologist.

You are digging and polishing your own history and a lot will be found during this expedition of challenge.

Do you feel any need to supplement your diet at all?

Not at all!

Are you happy with the choice and quality of fruit you are getting in Sweden?

Satisfied, Yes! I know from all my travel in the world that the taste in warmer countries, eating directly from the trees is superior. I can find my paradise only inside myself so the geographical place is not the first priority. Once I was very close to settle down in Cooktown in Australia but……Sweden seems to be my land at the moment.

So any plans to travel or relocate to a warmer climate, or are you happy living where you are now?

I never say never but as the world looks like just now I am satisfied to stay in Stockholm or close to this capital (sounds like money because kapital in Swedish means money).

Sometimes I long for a warmer climate where I could grow my own fruit trees and have a fruit garden with at least 50 different sorts of fruits. What a Paradise!

If we could get more sun in Sweden with half a meter humus soil layer we could easily grow any kind of fruit trees in a short time. I hope this climate change will come soon.

Where and how do you see yourself living and eating in 10 years from now?

I will probably still eat fruits in a limited way making many lectures because of the increased interest in energy savings. Especially among young people the change in consciousness will influence a lot of scientists making many works for doctor's degree about food and how it will effect the society and the human beings brain and behaviour. This because the fruit energy will effect every subject in the society. This understanding will get a break through starting 2012. Then it will escalate.

Do you think you could improve on your diet at all??

Me and my girlfriend Lisa have a goal not to eat i.e. not any depending on food. The reaching of this goal could be in this lifetime or the next. We improve every day because we have a plan…

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

Today, no one asks about that any longer. I just bless every question in that way.

Is there anything you'ld like to add as words of encouragement to those that are aspiring toward fruitarianism?

Fruit is freedom and freedom is love!

Finally, I know you are working with a Hydro - Atomic Institute there, could you tell us briefly what that project is all about?

In fact I am not working in this company, just supporting it with little money, ideas, contacts and to integrate Free Energy into the building industry. I like to be a ”free radical inspirator for new thoughts”. If I am connected I am not free. The New World needs new thoughts. The project of free energy is built upon water and hydrogen, even to get water directly from the air. This is not any new but…… To succeed with an introduction of a ”new technology” in the traditional industry is a hard work and also dangerous because it creates a lot of threatening conditions. We need new leaders without greed and hunting for money and power.

Thanks
hug,
Mango.

Interview with a Fruitarian - 33 - Sandrine

This is the 33rd interview of a fruitarian.. You can see the others interviewed so far here.. Any fruitarian reading this that would like to volunteer to be interviewed, please contact me. The criteria is that you should have faith in a 100% fruit diet (no nuts, seeds, leaves, roots, animal products etc. just simply fruit), and be either eating that way already, or have serious intentions and making good headway toward doing so..

Hi Sandrine,

Hi Mango

Sorry i've been so slow getting this to you, but thanks for letting me interview you!

no problem ! my english isn't very good, so feel free to correct any mistakes.

No worries, I'll do that of course..

OK, Could you please start by telling us a little about who you are, your age, where you are living/grew up? etc..etc..

I'm a french girl in my 30's, living in the south of France, near Nice. I grew up in Paris and decided to come here when I was 19, to be closer to nature and sun.

Diving in to the sea

Since I was 20 years old, I've been searching a lot on how to live life as simply as possible, spiritually, mentally, physically.

Do you live alone, or share living with family or a loved one?

it changes... currently, my mother is with me.

Do you have a website/blog or some way people can get in touch with you or follow your progress? Any places you like to hang out online?

I have a blog : frugivore.fr,, I also testify and answer and ask questions on diverses forums (eco-bio, iheartfruit, onnouscachetout, doctissimo...).

So, Sandrine, I know you have recently come off a long fast, can you tell us a little about that and what prompted you to start it?

I've known about fasting for ten years now, but never had the energy to do one.

During the first month on fruits, many people told me again about fasting, their experiences, short ones and long ones.

I started by doing some fasts on water for one and two days that same month.

I observed some intense detox after this month, but decided to accelerate it by starting a longer fast after I had informed myself as much as i was able about the fasting process.

My motivations were mostly to be more in peace with my emotions and heal some cysts on ovaries and sciatica inflammation and simply to have the experience of not eating.

I was alone on my home, resting most of time, and communicating with friends, family and fruitarians by the web. I felt some days extremely exhausted (particularly at night) and other days/times with a giant energy that was unknown for me.

going in to the sea
I started a blog because friends asked me many questions about the fruit diet (often the same ones) and fasting, so I decided to pass on information I had found, links, personal reflexions and to do a daily narrative of my fast.

I would have liked to do a 21 day fast, but for some reasons I stopped it one week before.

I kept a fasting diary on my blog ("carnet de jeûne") to keep track, to motivate me and inform my mother and friends.

Very amazing that on the 9th day I had a long walk, and the 15th day, I took my car and went to the beach with my mother (where I stopped the fast).

That must have been quite an experience, were you able to not binge on food after breaking the fast, I know that's a mistake that many people make..

I broke the fast on a sunset beach, with a grapefruit, and after continued to eat just fruit. I ate a little too much (only fruits), but it was ok.

The mistake that I made was to eat fruits too acid, not very ripe, so it give me hemorrhoids (horrible sensation !).

Coming from France, I am sure that you must be familiar with the Instinctive Eating movement started by Guy Berger?

I've heard a little about it.

What's your personal opinion of their method of eating?

according to what I know, I don't feel in phase with the idea of eating raw insects, it is not instinctive for me !

Eating raw and of good quality seems to be better than many other diets but you know, I've never been able to digested raw vegetables well.

In some way, I find it interesting, to eat what seems good to ourselves, but I think, because of the distance with our instincts, and that we are intelligent humans, it is important to inform ourselves, to share knowledge, experiences, to see clearly what are the consequences of different foods.

I heard that people who eat a lot of raw meat often get cancer of the colon...

Now that I better observe our body, I think it's evident that we are not made to eat animals.

In the passed, I have tried this, but always felt bad with that, because I have such love and compassion for them.

When I was child, I can remember a time when I returned to the sea a fisherman's bucket full of fish...

I looked briefly at the sea, to notice that half the fish were dead... and then ran away as fast as i could :D

Growing up in France, was your diet pretty typical at the time? - Give us a brief run down of what you used to get through, foodwise, on a typical day.

from around age 3 to 19 : milk chocolate with slice of bread with jam or honey, I would eat lunch at the school cantine, various sweet things (more or less bad) for mid-afternoon and for dinner, often had some fresh orange juice, raw vegetables, cereals and meat or fish.

Sometimes junk food, but not too often.

Compare that to today, what does a typical days food intake look like for you now?

since I started eating just fruits, my days have changed, I tried various ways of eating fruit.. The common point is that fruit is now my food :D

For the past three weeks, most of the time I've been eating grapes, oranges and grapefruits. Also kakis (persimmon/sharon fruit) and some avocados. I eat when I feel hungry, and/or too much detoxing.

Around 1.5 to 2 kgs of fruit minus the skin.

Some days, I fast (1 or 3 days mainly) or just take juice diluted in water.

Neat, So when did things start to change for you? Did you progress slowly to vegetarianism, veganism, raw food and fruitarianism, or was it more of a sudden change?? What sparked those changes?

After moving to Nice, I started making changes to my diet, I ate organic food, vegetarian most of time, but it was not very balanced. Too many refined things, to many grains (and tea and chocolate). I switched to a vegan diet, but didn't feel well, and returned to an omnivorous (fish) diet.

I wasn't too happy about that, but the problem was that I couldn't find a healthy balance, search though I did.

I heard about the fruit diet in my 20's when I read "autobiography of a yogi" but I don't recall too well as I think it seemed so far away from my possiblities...

The last 3 years had been very painful for my body, I was more and more invalid (spine and leg) and the problems on ovaries were unable to be resolved by doctors and naturpaths. On january, an alternative doctor advised me to eat fruits at lunch (nothing for breakfast) and "normal" meals for dinner. She also invited me to stop : milk, dairy, tea, coffee, chocolate, cereals, sugar, all refined food, all condiments (mostly salt).

I wondered how I could have enough energy with just fruit during the day ! But I decided to give it a go, and it changed my life !!! I was in a Pilates (between yoga, dance and gym) training which required a lot of physical and mental energy, and I was very surprised to see that I had so much more than before ! I stayed on this diet for roughly three months, and then went one month to a friend's home, where I abandoned a big part of this regime and started to feel bad, physically, mentally, emotionally. Then I returned home and did lots of research on the internet to know more about the diet of my doctor.

I discovered hygienism and one day, I read on a Shelton's revue that a woman living on fruits, healed most of her serious diseases and felt very very good, better than she'd ever felt before, even when she was a child. Shortly afterward, I read that Shelton believed that fruit is ideal and the best food for humans. The same day, rich on the experience, I started to eat only fruits, it was the 20th april 2009.

Has anyone else in your family made such changes??

my mother has started improving her diet over recent years. She listened to my discoveries and sometimes she follows me to her rhythm. She eats more and more fruit, and some days only fruit, or fasts.

my aunt also eats more fruit. My stepmother asks me questions sometimes and my brother is intrigued.

Taken on the 9th day of the fast

What do your parents and the rest of your family make of your choice of diet?

my mother understands very well, my father was a little scared in the beginning, but that's ok. During my fast, he advised me to make a psychoanalysis and to be careful of anorexia !!! :-)

The rest of the family don't care about, or were scared too, or don't know my diet. When I feel and see fear, I try to explain my best, but also if the person stayed in fear, at the start of my changes, I took some distance not to be infected and to continue my way without conflict.

After six months now there's no more problem, it's accepted by my main family. And they are more and more amazed and curious...

Can you tell us a little about your health before and after the changes you've made? What about your weight, any major changes?

It changed my life ! A friend said "it's a miracle" (and he moved on to fruit just after !).

I had been diagnosed as having spasmophilia, fibromyalgia for several doctors. The symptoms just flew away...

physically: eyes, better vision, and no more hypersensitivity toward the sun (no need for sun glasses) ; a sciatic inflammation disappeared, lots of back pain disappeared, I gained a lot of flexibility...

Also, I'd had bad sleep since adolescence, and now sleep very well and adopt a more natural rhythm (go to bed early) : what happiness to wake up with so much vitality, slight digestion (had a lot of difficulties before).

Cysts on ovaries seemed to vanish, specially during the fast. I didn't get diagnosed but all the symptoms decreased significantly, and I observed mucus excretions.

No more skin problems, acne (excluding when I eat too many avocados).

emotionally: anxiety, joy, can better manage emotions, can face problems with much more serenity.

mentally: less scattered thoughts, mental really more efficient and calm (I observe that, and others tend to agree).

- all that had gone wrong while I ate other things !...-

Do you sometimes crave foods other than fruit? If so, how you deal with that?

During two months, no cravings. After, around 10 cravings in 6 months. When I eat others things, I observe the taste, the feeling during eating and the consequences (body bad smell, digestion difficulties, skin, eyes...).

Whenever I'm craving, then, I want fruits !

I've observed that some foods and condiments are very very addictive: salt, wheat flour, milk, sugar.

After I eat foods other than fruit, I am more and more persuaded that fruit is the best !!!

I try not to feel guilty but to learn from the lesson.

Last month I had various experiences and made several observations.

the B12 issue had been puzzling me, and I had some difficulties to find good fruit, invitations to restaurant... So I tried several things (but continued to eat fruit in majority).

All my conclusions redirected me to fruitarianism.

When I ate other things, my diseases reappear a little, and I particulary noticed that my digestion was painful, my sleep not so good, go to bed later, my nose became blocked, my perspiration smell bad, my thoughts were more confused, me more excited, and depressed.

What kind of foods did you found most difficult to leave behind?

strangely in the beginning it was the bad junk food (pizza, hamburger, dishes very cooked). I had never being really accustomed to eat this but I think it is what I missed the most because those things are more concentrated in their addictiveness.

Given that my body was detoxing, it shouted for the lack of such things, by giving me images and desire of those horribles foods !!

Recently it was more food that I had been accustomed to eat (steamed vegetables mainly).

Strangely, I used to like very much chocolate but have had no great desires for it. I just re-tested one time and didn't like it much, very heavy and not so pleasurable, but feeling this addiction of it.

Do you feel any needs to supplement your diet at all?

no, I stopped all that, even plants.

If I observe some symptoms of lack of b12, maybe I might take supplements for a while, to let the body re-adapt to this new kind of food.

Are you happy with the choice and quality of fruit you are getting?

now it's ok most of time, but I ran all around to find good places to get my fruit.

Now I eat less variety of fruit than in the beginning and take as much local and seasonal fruit (all organics) as possible.

Ever tried a durian?

yes ! a little part, very special, like the texture and a little the taste, but it was unfortunately not so fresh and I think too ripe.

Any plans to travel or relocate to a warmer climate, or are you happy living where you are now?

I thought to go on island :D maybe I'll go later, but for now I'm happy here !

I have sea, sun and mountains, the climate is sweet.

Do you normally tell people how you eat? If so, what do you think is the most common question people ask you about your diet?

yes, I like to talk about. If I feel a space to exchange on that, I do. When I explain that I eat fruits, only fruits, people often don't react immediately. After I re-make clear and they have a very surprised expression on their faces ! It makes me smile :)

they usually say "fruits, only fruits, from morning to evening ?!" or something like that.

The common questions, I don't know, obviously there is the one of the proteins but I find lots of people who are more open minded. So I can't remember the most common question, maybe if there are any lack of vitamins etc and if I am good healthy, not tired.

And how I do with my social life (invitations...).

Some others say it's foolish, and try to put me on my limits to see how I react.

All these are interesting and instructive for me.

Taken on the 9th day of the fast

How do you answer their questions?

I sometimes reply by posing my own questions back..

I try to not intellectualise too much, I talk about my experience (my healing and all the activities, sports I do ; my emotional and mental states also), the experience of others (Arnold Ehret, Anne Osborne and her children, you and Kveta, a woman who has only eaten apples for 20 years and is a yoga-dance-pilates teacher -in India-, Richard Blackman/Jericho Sunfire etc) and give some information I've read, and things that they can reflect on, like the blood menstruations which can disappear without being unfertile.

Where and how do you see yourself living and eating in 10 years from now?

no more material eating !? :D or juice, or fruit.

Where ? maybe like to have a little place in France and travel in the world.

How ? simply, learning from relation, transmit the others about nutrition, hatha yoga, and others therapeutic approaches. All that can be grouped under the term yoga.

Do you think you could improve on your diet at all??

yes, I think we can always improve our diet ! even if I was only on prana, breatharian, maybe I could use the respiration differently and continue to evolve.

On fruits, I feel differently depending on which fruit I eat...

Do you know any, or many, other fruitarians? Any that would care to be interviewed?

I know some fruitarians that you already know. But all the people I know don't eat only fruit. (several eat only fruit on the day and on dinner some vegetables and sometimes cereals).

I never thought that I will talk with so many people who eat so much fruits and want to be fruitarians and breatharians !

Many of my friends eat more and more fruits. I've been contacted by several people who eat fruits in majority or want to do.

How many fruitarians do you think there are in France?

from talking with another fruitarian here, I gather we are around 30. but I think the majority don't eat only fruits. It seems like the fruitarian movement has grown some over the past few years (and months around me)!!!

Thanks to internet and all the people who share their experiences, and also the thoughts that don't need any support to be transmitting ("telepathy").

How do you feel if people tell you that you must be crazy, and that you can't possibly survive eating the way you do??

I may have a different response by the moment, but I've already said that "some people made it before me" and just smile.

Most of the time, my experience, -health and vitality- speaks for itself.

A friend said to me in the beginning : "ok, it's cool... now I want to see you in 6 months !" so, now I will call him and say that the time is passed and we may meet again !...

But it's true, we must be a little crazy to change so radically our diet ! :D "sweety craziness"

* human wisdom is foolishness in the eyes of god and man's folly is wisdom in the eyes of god *

Finally, is there anything you'ld like to add as words of encouragement to those that are aspiring toward fruitarianism?

go on, take information, communicate with others, listen to your body, nobody can know more than you what's good for it.

it changed so much in my life, healing, feeling an energy I've never felt before, even as a child. The physical, mental and emotional sides are more and more calm and effective.

anxiety flies away, joy takes its place, feel liberating, life becomes more and more simple, it smells good (and us too, no need for soap etc).

more able to live in present moment.

it is not a coincidence that all wise people end up adopting a special and light regime.

- we all have a wise person within us !

thank you Mango for all that you do to share you experience and making fruitarianism more known in the world.

I read all your interviews on my long fast and I loved to read of the diverse experiences of others. It encouraged me a lot.

European Fruitarian Festival

I remember, not so long ago, a time when the term fruitarian was virtually unheard of, and whatever followers that may have been in existence, were so few and far between that it would have seemed most unlikely for 2 to ever meet.

Nowadays, with the grateful aid of cyberspace, fruitarian networking is slowly happening and the meeting of kindred fruit lovers, in both the virtual and real world, is becoming increasingly more likely..

The world is upside down

Forums especially construed for fruit eaters are becoming increasingly more sought after, and those claiming fruitarianism as their path, are equally multiplying.

I'm happy and privileged to be consciously witnessing this change, and being the optimist I am, interpret it as being part of a steady evolution of human consciousness toward the light, and an unshackling of the blood and gore so seemingly eagerly pursued by those that still cling to destructive dark age habits..

Sure, I would love to see things move faster, and for humanity to speed up the whole evolving from the dark-side thing, but little I can do about that except try to remain focused on a brighter more fruit filled future..

Anyhow.. I digress, as I likely often do.. The purpose of this blog post is to let readers know of a fruitarian gathering being planned for Europe, next summer.. Anyone liking the idea of meeting up with fellow fruit lovers, and having the time and means to get there should visit:

http://www.fruitarisme.lautre.net/fruktifest.html

It's basically a free festival that I gather will be set up to run along similar lines to Rainbow Gatherings, where a "magic hat" is sent around to collect donations.

Fruitarian Book - 6 - My Path to Freedom

A couple of weeks back I stumbled across a forum talking about a Swedish Fruitarian named Tørd Lyseving, a fruitarian of 24 years to date..

Always excited to meet another solely fruit eating person into fruitarianism, I googled around some, found his email, and got in touch with him, asking if he would be up for an interview on my blog.

Days later, I received an email reply back from him, and an agreement to be interviewed..

Author of 7 books, 6 in Swedish, and 1 in English, Tørd has kindly sent me a copy of his English book, "My Path to Freedom" Self-Published in 2005.

Tørd is 66 years young, and eats purely fruit. (Fruitarian since 1985).

His book arrived on Friday (17th July 2009), one day after I finally got around to sending him an Interview, and I spent the rest of the day reading it, finishing it less than 24 hours later, the following day around noon..

Picture from Swedish Newspaper Afton Bladet

Much of what he writes fully echoes my own sentiments.. - the effect diet has played in forming the apparent chaotic world we live in, and the global need for change..

Like myself, the guy seems to be another of us self-proclaimed eternal optimists, that believe that the world will change for the better, and that the revolution of consciousness needed for that change is really unavoidable..

He tells us how he got started on his fruitful path, and quotes insightful stories from his own past, together with many of his interesting thoughts on how things one day could be..

Sitting reading Tord's book

He also gets a little scientific at times, although I must hasten to add, it's not the kind of science one might expect.. He goes into the whole "Biological Transmutation" thing (never heard of it? - I have an article about that on my main website, here), I must admit, I skipped much of this as personally have no real desire to get into that kind of stuff anymore.. Similarly he gets a little mathematical at times, as he demonstrates some of the equations he's put together..

He envisions a free an radically different world, void of suffering.. - In his own words, taken from the book:

Freedom for me is freedom from disease, pain, premature aging and all ailments connected to this (which are degenerative symptoms), agressive behaviour, negative manipulation, negative thoughts and harmful power and control, including financial control, and it's my conviction and experience that fruit gives you this freedom.

and..

No love comes from meat, because meat creates disharmony. Fruit gives life and spiritual growth. eating fruit gives peace in body and mind.
I am not trying to prove anything; I just want to show a way of LOVE without battles, wars, disease, conflicts, jealousies and mistrust.

Anyone interested in reading his books, can go to Tørd's website and order them from there..

Keep watching here to read his interview when it is ready (I'll update this particular blog entry with a direct link to it once it has been published here)..

Peace and hugs to all,
Mango.

Why so few succeed at fruitarianism

I've said this before, but it's definitely worth repeating.. So many people fail with a fruitarian diet, or give up thinking it's not for them, purely because they never fully give it a chance..

They fail to understand, just how seriously their health has been previously undermined, just what the amount of damage is, that has previously been inflicted upon the body.. and just how long it will take, to put things right..

In the Edmond Szekely book, "The Essene Science of Fasting", The story goes that Jesus (who was supposedly an Essene, thus borderline Fruitarian with his dietary wisdom), took people into the wilderness to fast.. There he told them, that for each year they had sinned and indulged in eating impure foods, they would have to fast for one day to recover.. Thus a 40 year old, to regain the given birth right of health, would need to fast for 40 days..

Of course, this was just a rule of thumb, and in todays more hi-tech society, with it's excessively denatured greasy fast food burger pizza fries sugar chemical concoctions, I have no doubt that this basic rule would have to be at least tripled, to bring it into the reality of 21st century living..

And of course, too, fasting is probably the most intense form of cleansing the body can undergo, leaving the body with little choice other than to fully focus on detox, elimination and the inevitable healing that comes with such...

So back on a fruit diet, how long do you expect it'll take to fully liberate oneself from previous flaws in ones diet? How long do you think it might take before those erred foods finally finish their influence upon us?

Of course, there is no one answer to those questions, it'ld all depend on ones age, state of health, environment, and more, and the answer may vary greatly from individual to individual, but I'm afraid one thing is for sure, most people quit far in advance of the visibility from the light at the end of the tunnel.

They walk away, disheartened and disillusioned with fruit, thinking it is to blame for their apparently waining health; unaware that in order to get better, the road is tough, and all manner of physical ailments may befall us.

I want to remind everyone of the little story I told (here) of Morris Krok, and how it took him a week to fully free himself from the effect that half a bar of chocolate had on his body.. And for us all to understand the true impact that the conventional diet will have on our frail physiologies.. Actually, I take that back, I think our physiologies are far from frail, given the abuse they are somehow miraculously able to withstand over the course of a lifetime..

Recounting from my own life experience, I recall that after vagabonding my way south, from Norway to the French Pyrenees (an event that took me approximately one year, and 5000 kilometers on my pushbike), I settled for a while in a French Community called "Douceur et Harmonie".. On arriving, I fully believed in the fruitarian diet, but was met with a good deal of opposition there..

Me and my trusty bike were reunited briefly
in Northern NSW 2007.
(after not having seen each other for roughly 8 years!)

I admit, I fully understand their skepticism, as very clearly at the time, I was still regularly battling cooked food addiction, while otherwise struggling to live on a raw vegan, predominantly fruit diet.. The consequences?? Well, I was pretty much constantly detoxing, and thus was undoubtedly far from being the great vision of health I desired to be.. I also had a couple of other major health issues that the universe threw at me, and although both were completely unrelated to the fruit diet, the severity of them sent the community into panic mode, thinking that I was slowly killing myself through lack of culinary wisdom.

I reckon this was the only time in my life, that I've ever experienced anything that was bordering on depression. - Probably due to the ever present detox, my emotions were pretty turmoilic at the time, and I was often experiencing anger too.

I brought my bike and myself to Australia back in 1997..
.. But that's another story

Thankfully, I eventually had the determination enough to move on with my life, and pursue my destiny.. I see everything that has happened to me to be significant in some way, and praise be to the great white spirit, that despite any hardships that I've endured, I've managed through it all to stay focused on what I believe is right, and despite that my own journey to fruit has taken so many years, it is truly joyous to be here, and to know that the path is forever unfolding.

Peace be to all,

Veganism/Fruitarianism and Religion

Those that are at all into religion, should already be aware that when you get down to the nitty gritty of it, the essence of pretty much every religion is about doing no harm, treating others with the respect that we ourselves expect, or fundamentally deserve, and generally loving and helping others when and where we are able.

Breakfast abomination

Buddhism, for example, has what it calls the 5 precepts, the first of which clearly states that one should undertake the precept to refrain from harming all living creatures (ie, both humans and other animals alike, and I'm supposing the ultimate harm is death!).

Albeit, I've yet to really meet a Buddhist that fully understands what that entails, and goes out of their way to put it into practice. (even the dalai lama regularly eats the flesh from other beings)..

Christianity, in addition to jesus's teachings of respect for others, has the very clear 6th commandment given in the old testament "thou shall not kill" (Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 5:17)..

A true carnivore would look at this creature, and think "food".

Specieistic scholars addicted to the scorched flesh of butchered animals, have tried to distort the true meaning of the commandment, and would have us believe that it refers purely to the murder of another human being, where I would seriously doubt that any such exception was ever intended.

Islam, supposedly the fastest-growing religion on the globe, quotes several times in it's Koran, that one should show respect for animals:

...but to hunt...is forbidden you, so long as ye are on the pilgrimage. Be mindful of your duty to Allah, unto Whom you will all be gathered.
(Koran, surah 5, verse 96)

It teaches that in Mecca, the birthplace of Mohammed, no creature can be slaughtered and that perfect harmony should exist between all living beings.. Which is odd, as I can't quite imagine that all the restaurants there are vegan..

Definitely not food.

Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself. (the Prophet Mohammed)

There is not an animal on the earth, nor a flying creature flying on two wings, but they are all peoples like unto you. (Koran, surah 6, verse 38)

Ahimsa is an east Indian term that relates to the principal of non-violence toward all life. Ahimsa is an important tenant of both Hinduism and Jainism

- Animals are seen as sentient beings worthy of human love and protection. Killing animals for food or any other reason is supposedly completely unthinkable to an adherent of Ahimsa, although I suspect as with other religions many disciples will ignore or regularly turn a blind eye toward this tenant. - Violence toward animals is said to negatively affect a person's destiny and fate. The idea is that one reaps what one sows and the adherents of Ahimsa believes that the violence and misery experienced by a murdered animal will be metaphysically transferred to the flesh-eater during his own lifetime.

What gives us the right to eat animals?

The Bahai Faith teaches that respect for animals is just, and even supports it's followers to become vegetarian. Some even choose to cut out all animal products, and eat vegan. Admittedly, not all followers have the insight enough to equate respect for animals with diet at all, so I'm guessing that vegetarians in the faith are most likely to be in the minority..

Furthermore, Abdu’l-Bahá said, Fruits and grains [will be the foods
of the future]. The time will come when meat will no longer be eaten..

The next time those Mormons come knocking on the door, take a look at one of their small colourful brochures.. They often have one baring a picture of an idylic setting with colourful fruit baskets and lions lying peacefully next to lambs..

This they see as a future paradise, clearly portraying the Isaiah prophecies of a time when carnivorism will stop, even as behaviour between other species.. To me, it makes perfect sense that in order to bring about such a setting, we will all need to change our eating habits.. Apparently a fact that not one of those young mormons I've spoken with, has ever understood or appreciated.. Although, perhaps they were Jehovas Witnesses? I've always ignorantly confused the 2 groups.

Real food, for real people.

I'm quite certain that a few google searches would show similar thoughts expressed by other religions.. Quotes that are generally swept under the carpet by both leaders and followers of each religion.

The Pope, head of the catholic faith, similar to the dalai lama, is a regular flesh eater, devouring gluttonously all creatures great and small.

So clearly, it appears to me, and I repeat myself, the core of all religions is about Non-Violence..

The most nonviolent of all food, and thus the pinnacle of religious food, is unquestionably fruit. - No exploitation, killing or theft from animal or plant - No unjust imprisonment, branding, castration, torture or eartag punching of voiceless innocent animals.. - No acre upon acre of annual mono-agriculture, reliant on heavy industry tractors and harvesters, resulting in the loss of many small animals lives, and the loss of habitat of creatures of all sizes.. (The statistics in that industry of how many accidents, and deaths to humans alone, annually, is quite shocking - as well as millions of mammals and other creatures sliced by combines, harvesters).

Alive with colour

Fruit is the only food given freely and generously from the plant which bequeaths it all..

If you think of heaven as a place where you can sit and fish all day, then think again. I am convinced that heaven is heaven for all, including the fish.

Adopt a fruit diet, and help humanity evolve toward the light side!

Peace,

Fruitarianism and Teeth

Over the past few months I have received a surprising amount of email from people asking me what I think of the whole "fruitarian diet" & "teeth" thing..

Kveta and I - 2nd May 2009
Kveta and I out for a stroll on Congwong Beach

Some have refered directly to the fact that I myself have lost several teeth over the last decade or so..

clearly some people fear that a fruit or fruit based diet may be responsible for that, and internal nagging doubts, remind them of all the scaremongering about too much fruit sugars, and the effect it may have on ones teeth, bones etc..

Well, I have already written my story of how I came to lose my teeth, that recollection can be found here:

http://www.fruitnut.net/HTML/205_NonFiction_Fruit_Mango.htm

For sure, it would have been great if I'd succeeded in reaching fruitarianism without any damage to my teeth, I would have been able to proudly show off my full set and say, "look! a fruit diet is fine".. But for me, part of my journey took me through that hardship, and despite a year or more of on and off excruciating agony (probably the worst pains I've ever experienced - to the point of delirium), I managed to avoid ever consulting a dentist.

This I did despite an enormous amount of pier pressure that bad gum infections could potentially lead to death, I knew that I was on the right path, and that eventually, I would pull through. Which naturally, I did.

Yes, it's true, I have the same aversion toward dentists, as I do towards doctors, they are both part of an industry that has no benefit from us being healthy, and will offer no real assistance toward that goal.

In my opinion, the only thing a doctor is good for, is stitching up wounds after accidents, or helping set fractured or broken bones. Other than that, they are just a glorified profession full of legalised drug dealers, that on the pretext of supposedly helping us, sell their wares, for which, just like the street drug peddler, they are greatly financially rewarded.. Addressing purely the suppression of symptoms, with little, if indeed any at all, regard for causes..

Similarly, other than telling us not to eat too many sweets, and to brush our teeth twice or more daily, dentists offer us no real knowledge as to why our teeth might not be perfect.. This is most likely because the industry as a whole is ignorant of the role that diet plays in our healths, including the effect the standard overcooked flesh and 2 veggies diet will have on our teeth.

Do you see it?

They just don't see it.

The medical industry is one of the worlds largest money spinners, and would have to seriously restructure and minimise itself, should we all turn around and eat what we are supposed to eat.

But I diverge.. Back to the issue of the fruitarian diet and teeth..

For some reason, it really still bugs me when people talk about fruit sugars, and mistakenly confuse them with sugar.. (- Trust me, I'm not someone that gets bugged all too easily!).

I mean, there's sugar, which is one thing.. A highly refined, fully processed denatured product that doesn't exist anywhere in nature, and then there's fully natural, designed by nature for us to enjoy and thrive on, fruit.. Which from a denatured scientific viewpoint, contains fruit sugars.. But the truth is, apart from the word sugar, the too have otherwise next to nothing in common. I think I'd prefer to call fruit sugars, fruit sweetness, and avoid the sugar thing altogether..

I lost my teeth, through a combination of eating unripe fruits, (which I cannot emphasis enough, are not ready to eat yet, and that doing so will have consequences- and likely none too pleasant ones!), and eating cooked foods. Had I been stronger willed, more determined, I could have avoided that issue together. But I wasn't, and I learned my lesson the hard way. Although I believe it made it sink in, and probably overall made me stronger..

braving it into the autumn sea

What makes me so sure that it wasn't just eating predominantly fruit that cause my teeth to fall out? Well, that's easy..

1. Since getting through that period of time with very weak teeth, my teeth have, if anything at all, strengthened themselves within my mouth (clearly, had the issue been fruit alone, my teeth would have progressively deteriorated, and would still be an issue, and causing me problems, which they are not, despite all those nasty beastly fruit sugars and the hardly ever brushing).

2. My teeth were already in a very weak state prior to my mango adventure, their health having been compromised on my previous cooked food diet, and the ever present assistance from what I once believe to be well meaning dentists, who had already given me a mouthful of countless fillings..

Me in the sea..

Of course, the fillings are still an issue, as since adopting my philosophy of non interference and letting my body heal itself, they are still there.. And occasionally, one might reach it's use by date, and fall out, but I don't mind.. I am glad to see the back of them!! I've been told I should have them removed, as they mostly all contain mercury, and their is the issue of poisoning, but I am sticking to my noninterference method, and intend for things to go their natural course.. Besides, I feel such an invasive procedure as mercury filling removal may do more harm than good.

Also, I believe that the body if left to it's use it's own inner wisdom, may possibly grow a 3rd set of teeth - there are documented cases, although rare.. If this should happen, all well and good, if not, no worries.. I'm not holding my breath..

Apart from the cosmetic issue of missing a few teeth, I really don't make a big deal of it, and the remaining teeth I have do their job in regards to chewing my food.

I don't believe in plastic surgery.

Peace, Mango.

Raw Confusion

I recently started reading Frederic Patenaudes newsletter..

He wrote an article on, and I quote, "Why I'm mad as Hell at the Raw food Movement"..

Interesting stuff.. And I can certainly relate to some of what he writes and even his sometimes feelings of anger and frustration toward the raw food movement, and it's ever conflicting theories.

However, I personally feel that at many levels his own personal beliefs are just adding to the overall confusion that he writes of.. (as, no doubt.. so are mine!)..

So many different apparently convincing claims as to how we should or shouldn't eat..

Of course, people are 100% free to follow whichever theory they feel suits them best at any given point in time, but for the record, I really want to say that this idea of counting calories, balancing, protein versus carbs, and analyzing foods to determine fat levels, using charts to eat 80/10/10 (As is Frederics particular belief) and such is all just unnecessarily complex..

I'm not saying that calories aren't important, but counting them is a waste of time, I'm not saying protein does or doesn't play a role, but I'm honestly just not interested in them.. Same goes for sugars, complex carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals etc.. Let's face it it's all just white smocked scientist theory that distances us all from what food should really be about.. And that isn't about becoming anxious over whether we're getting things balanced according to some sterile downloadable food content chart from the internet..

Personally, my philosophy is that fruit is the highest of all foods..

All fruits are different, providing us with different amounts of joy..

When I sit down to eat food, I eat fruit. It's that simple in my eyes. I don't sit down and see a plate of carbohydrates amino-acids, sugars and trace elements. I wouldn't even recognise them if you chopped them up nice and neatly and stuck them under a microscope..

Whatever you see under a microscope is dead anyhows!

Sure we can survive on foods that aren't fruit. The human physiology is outrageously resilient and is capable of all manner of long term abuse.

fruitarianism news
news the world desperately needs to hear

Frederic points out that Bonobos are our closest relatives, and he may well be spot on there, but that fraction of a percentage difference in DNA makes all the difference. Humans are not bonobos, and although the comparative anatomy and diet may be fascinating, I would still consider it mostly irrelevant as to how we are ourselves are physiologically designed to eat. (Even if they occasionally might eat live insects on a stick, or relish the occasional maggot, their physiological proximity would be no incentive for me to go and do likewise!)

I may unwittingly myself be following an 80/10/10 diet, and balancing things just like Doug Graham thinks is right, but frankly I don't care either way. I reached where I am through having the simple basic understanding and revelation that fruit is the highest of all foods, and that the more we eat of it (and consequently, the less of other foods), the more we attune ourselves to live as I believe nature intended..

The garden of Eden diet..

I've thought for some time now, that if one should desire to return to the garden of Eden, I would hazard a guess that we'ld not be let back in until our behaviours and habits were appropriate..
